    Laptop cmos battery weak

    Hi
Friend got a new laptop semi recently and its been changing the pc time erratically, tried everything on google to reset the time service, to change the internet sync site etc

Its not a big deal besides making skype/aim unusable because messages come in completely out of order when the time changes, sending the laptop back in and cracking it open to replace are not really an options so does anyone have an idea what to do about this?

assuming at this point that the cmos battery is the culprit since nothing else did anything besides a temporary reset to the correct time

    windows 7

You probably need o buy a new battery, they are usually cheap

Just need to google for the procedure on how to change it (depending on your laptop model)

Or if it's new like bought new in a shop, go back to them for the warranty so they can change the battery

If you switch out your CMOS battery in under like 30 seconds, the buffer will hold most of the information. Also, why is it hard to change your BIOS clock? lol

she doesn't want to open it up is the issue with just changing the battery when all it messes with is the instant messengers, you can keep resyncing the time to whatever but it'll change itself when it wants

I've never taken a laptop apart so dunno what to do there either

lots of laptops have cmos batteries in easy to access locations, simply by removing a few screws on a panel in the back.

some manufacturers are real cocksuckers and put them in places that require you to open up the whole laptop and take the keyboard off the front too.

i'd start by removing any small panel from the back of the laptop that only takes a couple screws to get off. if its not accessible via the panels on the back I would recommend you take it to a shop or someone who knows wtf they are doing.
