Dell hopefully. Been working here 4 years so hoping to do a move within the company. We do have the visa either way so if things dont work out we will likely be travelling over ourselves later in the year regardless. Just means no job so a bit of a risk. Might consider Vancouver though if we have to go over jobless for now.

sounds like Daruvan has what you need regarding Markham, I know nothing of cities north of Toronto. GTA (Greater Toronto Area) includes Toronto itself, Etobicoke (west part of Toronto), North York (middle north), Scarborough (east end), and East York (between North York and Scarborough)

Markham, Stouffville, Richmond Hill, Maple, Brampton, Mississauga are all surrounding area and not strictly Toronto or even GTA (Mississauga more than stands on its own and imo wouldn't even remotely be considered Toronto)

if you take transit, keep in mind you'll be paying 2 fares switching between GTA and any of the 2nd list. If you live north of Toronto I'd recommend driving.

If you want info on any GTA neighbourhoods let me know, feel free to PM anytime. Pretty much all of East York is fine aside from Overlea and Don Mills area. East York ends and Scarborough begins at Victoria Park Ave. Scarborough has pockets of good neighborhoods but has a lot of government housing. North York is hit or miss so PM's are best.

Cheers thanks. Plan is definately to get a car as soon as i can. Only concern i have is that Insurance is going to be crazy high from what some Irish people have been telling me. Somewhere in the region of $500 a month! Ill definately give you a shout thanks if things move foward.

On some other Expat forums and Canadian ones iv had some people say Markham is very quiet that i should be looking at Yonge and Eglinton or Yonge and Lawrence Rd for my age bracket. Anyone familiar with either areas?

Depends what you want. Markham is starting to get crowded and wont be quiet for long, Yonge & Eglinton crowd is a mixture of age groups and is packed. Maybe you should look into the Condo's at Yonge & Bloor...Think they will be built by next year and are going for a decent price right now.

Some college friends of mine rent an apartment in the Yonge and Eglinton area. It's okay but traffic is a nightmare. It's a very crowded part of town.

Lived at Y&E for a year, really nice neighbourhood if you're into pubs and being 20 something, but I wouldn't drive anywhere near it at all. During the day it's a gong show.

Well i finally got word back and i was successful in getting the job. Absolutely delighted. Going to get all the finer details tomorrow about dates etc but it is looking likely that i will be leaving here in Late July / Early August. We have definately decided on Young & Eglinton for at least our first year to get settled and get an idea of what the city / surrounding areas are like. Appreciate the tips and advice so far.

If some of you guys wouldnt mind would you be able to point me in the right direction for resources / websites / contacts for the following.

Renting Accomodation - Currently thrawling through Kijiji and Craigs List
Driving Test Centre - ?
Driving Test Lesson / Pre Test - ?

Furniture (Aside from Ikea) - ?
Anything Else - ?

Im sure a lot of information will be given to me in some form of a package but its likely to be generic and id like to get it direct from you guys living there thanks.

Thanks man will check that one out. I had heard some good things about Kodoo. I have a Galaxy S3 that i fully own so might just complete reflash that and have it unlocked. Just need to make sure it would actually work over there.. Phones can be weird with Data / GSM or some shit.

Right...Signed and accepted everything today but was Thrown a complete curveball today I wasnt expecting it but seems im needed in Calgary so wont be living in Toronto... Gonna ask a mod to delete this if not required for anyone and go back to the drawing board for Calgary..
