that's the same conclusion i reached. combine that with the complete lack of flavoring, i'm sticking with civ v for now.

Hackey Thread Lurker since 2010
If this had blind research like Alpha Centauri did... I can only wish.

Yea, I think the people who decided to wait until a nice steam sale are the real winners here. It's ok, but the parts it falls short on are just way to numerous. In fact, I'm surprised it took them this long to make, given what is in it and it's just built on top of c5.

To me the worst part are the new win conditions. Besides the military one, everything else is some variation of "get to end game then skip turn 30+ times until you win". I did the Promised Land victory first and it got so horribly tedious near the end. Late game is even more boring than it used to be, imo.

From what I'm hearing so far I'm not even so sure that I want to buy this anymore when it does go on sale, lol.

Despite some of the problems with it, I still enjoy it. I'm hoping it'll get much better when expansion drops.
Although it does seem rushed. It doesn't support fullscreen 1080p on my monitor, for example, and attempting to run it fullscreen forcibly changes my desktop to 1320x820 resolution and then crashes the game. Which is annoying as I manually have to change back to 1080p.

I did like the exploration which ended up giving me an alien unit which kicked almost everything's butt and I'm enjoying it but with the amount of hype, I feel like that it should have been more exciting.

I like the quest system that lets you tweak building outputs, letting you adapt to changes or to suit your play style. Outside of the building decisions, quests overall seem like they could have used more variety though, didn't take many playthroughs to start seeing them repeat quite a lot.
Bland bare bones-ed UI is also a problem, still not sure where half the shit on the tech web is since it all looks the same. Found the narrator to be rather disappointing as well but then I've only ever played Civ V and like the narrator there quite a lot.
Hopefully it'll get a bit more polished with some updates/expansions.
And a William Morgan Sheppard announcer pack.

i found it disconcerting that the quotes of other leaders in the game were read in Old Man's Granddaughter's voice.

Gave this a try... and I'm pretty disappointed. It feels very incomplete.
Pros:
Unit upgrade system.
Quests are interesting, even though they get old fast.
Aliens are slightly more interesting than barbarians.
Interesting tile improvements and a lot more choice in them.
Less emphasis on getting a perfect start location.
Espionage has more depth.
Combat is handled well.
Cons:
The tech web is an illogical clusterfuck and 9/10 times you're best off beelining affinities.
Wonders fucking suck.
Buildings are generic and boring.
Trading posts or whatever they're called are useless as hell and have no purpose.
Late game is even more boring than Civ V.
Trade routes are ridiculously overpowered.
You constantly have to refresh your trade routes. Give me an option to just fucking auto-repeat.
Only 8 civs, with only one bonus each. Not particularly balanced, either.
No luxuries, no city-states, no religions, no cultural victory, no great persons.
Favors are useless.
No reason to bother with diplomacy at all.
The AI is still pants-on-head retarded, and seems to be incredibly passive.
Most of the quest decisions are no-brainers.
Can't nuke a city off the map, so you have to raze it and take massive health penalties.
Orbital units aren't particularly useful, and the dumbass AI spams solar collectors instead of building an army.
City UI kinda sucks.
