couchsurfing.org events are the fastest, easiest way to make friends. People gather at those events are usually people that are new at a town and focusing on a specific hobby. Especially if you are living in a not-so-small town, this one is a goldmine. I never use it to "surf", just for events and gatherings.

But you've mentioned that you are also a student, why don't you join some school groups/meetings? You don't really need any special efforts other than simply being active at school for friendship. Try getting out of your comfort zone a bit.

Best way to make friends is just to be social overall and not seeking any. Try to enjoy your life as you are today and be social, you'll eventually have people around you.

So maybe that's part of my problem, the fact that I can't tolerate people very well? If that's the case then I may be better off sticking with the BG crowd.
I think part of the problem is becoming more picky with age. The thing about BG is, here you can call people out on their stupid without having to worry they'd take offense. It really goes down to what you're after. If I were you I'd probably try a glass of wine with the coworker. People aren't perfect, she might be irritated about things you say for one reason or another as well. One thing I've learned is to try to find things I appreciate about others and focus on that. Every person you meet will know stuff you don't and can in one way or another enrich your life. Give people a chance, they might grow on you in ways you did not expect.

But I honestly don't care. It's not that big of a deal. Hell guys like you make it easier to deal with. Let's me know what trash is out there. :D
And that is your problem, you take yourself way too seriously. You just called trash a guy that is loyal to his friends and pretty hilarious over all. No wonder you don't meet people.

You make friends with guys, because they take you for who you are. I think women in general need to take a closer look at how men bond. It's not about finding that one perfect bff.

Nope, pretty sure it is completely free except for the one-time ID confirmation at will, which is not needed.

Honestly I've always preferred to meet my friends online. There's that issue that most of them will end up living far away from you and you might never see them. But I've managed to make lasting friendships through online gaming (see: FFXI), even met my boyfriend there and we've been together for years now. And the community I'm in currently for AKB48 (Japanese idol group) is looking promising as well, as far as making meaningful friendships. I'm perfectly okay having important friends who I have never actually met before, only talked on the phone and shared pictures with, but that's obviously not everyone.

If you prefer your friends more the "within comfortable driving distance" type, the only ones of those I've managed to make have been through high school and college clubs, so yeah... I'm pretty much in the same "not good at making friends" boat. I don't really go out looking to make friends though. I wonder what would happen if I did XD

Curious, what does a community based on a single group talk about day-to-day? Do they release enough content to keep a banter going on a regular basis? How does this work?

EDIT: Actually, maybe this should have been a PM! PM me your response, please.

    Generally, everything else.
I mean, BG started with FFXI. And when the userbase invariably started talking about off topic shit, subsections begin poping up to contain it (and so on down the rabbit hole).
I've seen it happen with PA, and XKCD, and MSPA, and Exalted, and Shadowrun, and on and on.

Though, I'm guessing AKB48 is a special case, in that it's less a band and more a large organization that looks like a band at first glance.

Hey guys. I came to post a thread about something else, but this thread caught my attention. I wanted to ask for BG's thoughts on this. If you get past age 21 and you still don't have an established group of close friends, are you kind of screwed (as far as making friends goes)? I was thinking that by that age, most people usually have a close group of friends who they've been friends with for a long time. It's harder to make friends with people who already have an established group of friends, because there isn't much incentive for them to accept another friend into their group. I just think that if you get out of college or university and still don't have any good friends, it's really difficult to make them. I'm 24 now. I haven't completely given up, though I am starting to worry. Am I being too negative or what?

Go forth and do shit outside your house.

    You will make friends.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

It's harder, but you aren't fucked.

I moved to Cali when I was 26 (from CT), so while I had an established group of friends back home, that basically meant dick outside of facebook. It was really hard and in the beginning all of my friends were my husband's (then bf) friends.

I would say the big thing is to learn to chill with coworkers. Yes, you probably won't be playing D&D with them, but really it's not the end of the world to find ways to connect to them. I've found talking about tv shows works wonders.
