BG Auto Repair: Radio Antenna

Hey,

My sister for some reason rushed into the garage with her car while the door hasn't fully pull up yet and the external Radio Antenna that looks like a shark fin was scraped in the process along with the the exterior roof of the car. It looks like the Antenna was lifted up from its anchor and now when she drives, especially on the freeway, there will be wind sound even though all the windows are rolled up. I'm trying to fix it and thinking maybe just pop the Antenna back in its anchor should be able to solve the problem, but I wants to ask for advice first before attempting anything. Also another question, should I put any glue as well to keep it in place?

To do it right, you really gotta take out the upholstery for the ceiling so you can be sure the bracket on the underside isn't damaged. And you don't wanna screw around with it, because rain will get in there, run down the inside of the car and start getting into electronics and letting mold and mildew start to form.

You can glue it, but I think you are looking at a replacement by a professional or someone used to taking apart of the inside of a car. Could try a aftermarket car stereo installation shop, they will be pretty used to messing with that stuff instead of the dealer.

Buffy is right, you have to tear down the headliner and make sure it's sealed tightly. A year (or less) later, the car will be full of mold and mildew.

Push it back and see if it fits snuggly. BMW's fins are not attached from the inside of the car, so I would assume VW and cheaper brands would be similar. Some BMW's are just glued on, like an emblem. Some of them have little feet/posts that fit into holes in the roof.


Edit: If it has feet and clicks in to the roof, you won't need adhesive. That is what the rubber gasket on the bottom of the antena is for. By the looks of yours, there was no factory sealant used.... so it's more than likely the type that just clicks into the roof. If this one doesn't click back in.... buy a new one. They shouldn't be all that expensive.
