Anyone here has their kids in an immersion school?

Spoke to a co-worker who had their son in a French one and had nothing but praise for it. Been talking with the wife and feel like this would be a great idea to enroll him in a Spanish one for pre-school and elementary. He’s going to turn four in July.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

Everyone I've heard who has done it has said great things about it. However, keep in mind that it's still in it's infancy, and I don't think we have any high schoolers yet who have gone through it.

I can't imagine it would hurt, though, if there is a program near you.

Do you mean locally? It’s been around since the 70s and there’s been several hundred+ in the US for decades now.

My nephew did one for Spanish when he was younger and loved it. He’s in high school now.

My bad. It was banned in CA, and they just reintroduced it about 5(?) years ago. So yeah, I think I incorrectly got it stuck in my head it was a recent thing.

I actually don't know much about, so can't give much info. I guess it wasn't banned per se but severely limited as enough parents had to sign off on it. Here's an article that explains it:

As to why the parents needed waivers? No idea.

California didn't like immigrants prior to the turn of the millennium. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1994_C...roposition_187

Prop 227 was all about assimilation and pushing English only education and only got repealed in 2016

Yeah, people forget California was a red state that didn't start going purple then blue till the 90's. Clinton broke the streak of it's electoral votes going to Republican candidates that went back to Nixon I believe.

Thought long and hard over this, and I'm going to put my 3 and half year old in soccer instead of baseball for his first sport.

Going to wait one more year when he can better handle instructions and some patience.

Considering Tee-ball starts at 5-6 year-olds in my area, you're good. Soccer ends up being all the kids chasing the ball for the first few years anyways.

Good to hear. They have a four year old tee-ball league here starting up around the same time that was tempting.

Also it depends on the goal

If you want him to use his energy baseball won’t be the best sport

Soccer or basketball are by far the best for burning off energy. Or just laps around a football field that works too. If your kids are anything like mine they can run miles all day long and still not be worn out by the end of the day.

After touring a dozen or so preschools, the wifey and I have finally decided on one. Small family-owned location, state certified, 10 to 1 student:teacher ratio, with all the teachers being fluent in Spanish. Camera system and security seemed on point too.

Pretty excited about the whole thing and the price isn't too extreme at $316 weekly.

Has anyone had an au pair for their children? My wife is wanting to return to work sometime this fall and we are considering it as an option for what would be a 7/8 month old baby.

Trying to figure out what kind of timeline is the typical process and see what others have experienced.

Yeah, thinking live in. I speak zero Spanish but my wife can speak a little so we were looking for ways to get him more exposure so were thinking a Spanish speaking au pair.

I work from home but won't be able to care for him through the work day. My wife's field will likely allow for some hybrid work but not certain.
