As far as I know, watching something on a streaming site is not illegal -- at least not by the letter of the law, but that might just be because the law hasn't caught up yet.

Specifically, it's illegal, but since streaming does not place a file in your possession as some really sweet evidence, it makes proving the violation a little bit more of a pain than downloading or torrenting would do.

I got three of them at once a few years ago for downloading bleach after crunchyroll got the streaming rights for it. Nothing happened and no fucks were given.

That said, and as others have already said, if you're worried about this stuff and don't have any idea what you can do/how to protect yourself, then maybe you shouldn't be downloading things.

Aren't private trackers useless anyways? I don't think there's shit you can do if you get a letter, it's all random dumb luck. I would tape that shit to my wall if I ever got a letter. It's like winning the lottery.

They're not the perfect defense, but not useless either. Only thing better is using a VPN AFAIK.

I thought the law had not caught up because of sites like youtube, etc, and because, like Cantih said, there's no file you can track or follow in the same was as with a download.

I got my internet taken away after my 3rd letter and wasn't able to get internet in my apartment for a year afterwards. We had to move and use someone else's name. Shit sucks when there is literally only one option for internet providers.
