NCAA Baseball College World Series & Tournament

    Anyone else care about this?

As the most outspoken fan of the #1 national seed Oregon State Beavers*, I felt the need to at least try to start some discussion.

There doesn't seem to be a huge dominant team this year, and none of the elite teams finished the season on a particularly hot note. Seems to me that it's going to be another year where some team's pitching staff becomes super-hot and runs the table, like UCLA last year.

    Omaha Predictions:
Oregon State, LSU, Louisville, Vanderbilt, Florida, Cal Poly, Ole Miss, Virginia

    Finals:
    Virginia over Oregon State

I think a potential first game in Omaha between Aaron Nola and Ben Wetzler could be epic, and the winner seems like the most likely to reach the final series. First team to get a runner to third wins.

*I feel compelled to say it just like this.

I follow it because baseball is secretly LSU's best sport. Just won the SEC tournament (over GATA) so we'll see if the roll continues.

I cared about this when I was little (and wichita state was good at baseball), these days...

softball tourney is waaaaaay more interesting

I think it's mostly because when the softball teams have a really dominant pitcher, they can actually use them most of the time.

In case anyone's interested, there's a bracket challenge here. It's not automated, so you'll have to manually fill it out in the comments, but it's the only one I'm aware of.

    Eventful day.
Two national seeds go down already, only the third time that has ever happened on the first day. Louisiana Lafayette loses a 1-0 pitchers' duel, but Florida State gets blown out 7-0, getting outhit 16-2. Alabama loses to a school I never heard of before today so, as expected, Florida State and Alabama will play tomorrow. However, they certainly didn't expect to be playing in the day game. Georgia Southern and Kennesaw State play the night game for the right to advance to the final.
Oregon beats Clemson by two touchdowns and a field goal.
Other teams have games postponed, so there will teams already eliminated from the tournament before other teams even take the field.
Still more to come, maybe? TCU only up 1-0 in the 6th, and the #1 overall seed still has to play.

Kennesaw State is a big public school just outside of Atlanta. Georgia schools doin work.

LSU was down 4-2 in the 7th but came back to win 8-4

Make that three national seeds. Florida falls, as well. OSU not having a cakewalk in Corvallis, either, so four out of eight is not impossible.

    C'mon, Beavs.

Florida State managed to score 0 runs and 5 hits through their first 17 innings of regional play. 5 runs in the 9th wasn't enough, though, and they are the first national seed eliminated this year. First time in 30 years they've lost their first two games in the tournament.

Still stunned that both Florida and Florida State managed to go 0-2 as national seeds.

Two more national seeds still working their way through the losers' bracket, and three of them are playing a Game 7 tonight.

Texas-Texas A&M game 7 is a pretty epic thing, and a Maryland-Virginia super regional seems like a lot of fun.

For the bracket challenge, I saw one other TCU winner. I'm now locked ahead of him, pretty sure I'll knock it down with a TCU championship regardless of rest of play
