Why that happened isn't as simple as just saying, "Because it's RDM!" though. XI was far harsher on progression and it technically saw the same disinterest or dislike of pressure with the healing role and WHMs. RDMs certainly weren't being invited for melee or nukes when you could've picked from a glut of specialists LFG, so the last resort for those wanting to actually EXP the job fell into playing healer. SMN faced similar. From this point, I'd also say BLU avoided a similar fate because SE outright made it impractical for the job to staff swap via physical spells being tied to main hand skill with a dash of limiting the spells one could equip.

Despite the introduction of Echo and other measures, many players are still having problems clearing due to the instant death mechanics in many of these fights. Changes/modifications to these mechanics are now being considered for at least some of these contents.

Things opened up later, yes, both with MF and eventually WC, but I'll generally claim SE did learn a bit from its fuck ups with RDM when it came to BLU. Unfortunately, that also became a scapegoat for some to try and push people away from a dysfunctional RDM.

To be fair, echo doesn't really do anything to alleviate some of the mechanics of the fights and if people couldn't do them pre-echo, theres no reason for them to be able to do it now.

We talked about it, and I'm not one to lie to the fans, but it's still a little bit early to talk about it. When I can talk about it, I will.

When was the decision made to add a class before the expansion?

We do have plans to release new jobs and new classes at the expansion; it wasn't like we took a job and class from that expansion and decided to release it early. We've always planned to release a new class and new job at a patch.

So with more classes coming in the 3.0 expansion, can you tell us which ones?

New ones are coming, but we can't say anything. But not just one.
