had my first few pirate space battles last night. if they expand it, it has serious potential
I dread pirates, the minimap on your ship is useless cause of the scale it works in, and theres no lock on for space combat (even as an augment cmon). If I see them locking onto my scan, I just hit the planet's surface as soon as I can, or I just jump to another system. Fuck. That. Noise.
Game can possibly be receiving paid DLC, despite what Sean Murray previously stated
http://www.gamezone.com/news/no-man-...id-dlc-3442515Last week, the creator of No Man's Sky, Sean Murray, revealed that the game would not be getting any paid DLC. Instead, players can look forward to free patches that include new content. A new interview with Sean Murray has him backtracking a bit on that statement.
Speaking with DailyStar, Murray said that it was "perhaps naive" for suggesting No Man's Sky only see free updates. Murray plans on bringing "new content and new features" to the game. Some of the new features that have been suggested for the game is " the ability to build bases and own giant space freighters" - something that has tickled the fancy of a number of No Man's Sky players.
However, pressed on whether or not the DLC will be free or get a price, Murray said that there was a chance that it could happen. "Maybe in the future there’s some reason why we just couldn’t possibly afford to do a certain feature without charging for it." The reason behind putting a fee on the DLC is quite understandable, though, the game has already sold over 100K in the UK alone - which means the game made quite a bit of money in a week since release from one region alone.
This guy is a fountain of lies.
Also if you're playing on PC: http://nomansskymods.com/mods/lowfli...-hytek-packed/
In just 2 weeks the game on PC has lost 90% of it's players
i've had a few run ins with pirates, 1 or 2 even sometimes a 3rd ship chasing you down was doable... 3 was kinda intense trying to swap over to recharging shields while actively in combat and 4 was just a slaughter.
But it's a fairly fun encounter and mixes things up a little bit...
I don't think these guys will ever be able to sell another game at full retail again after this.
I have to admit, I didn't follow the promotions that closely. I'm curious though, I mean it's an indie game made by a studio of about 15 people. Why does it seem like everyone was expecting this to be the best game ever for everyone?
I can certainly understand people being turned off by the $60 price point for an indie game, and that they didn't deliver on a number of things talked about. That being said... it's 15 people making the game. AAA studios with 200+ people haven't been able to pull off the kinds of expectations that were being made here.
As has been said multiple times, because the developers were lying.
yes, it wasn't so much that people had great expectations from nowhere. We were told it would have features which is what people were hyped about. That and the "dynamic" theme was bullshit. Ontop of the fact no one has come out to address anything about the massive cut of talked about features, dynamic theme, no multiplayer, etc. Its under control now but the game was practically unplayable for me before patch 1.05 so almost 2 weeks after launch and I just don't want to play it anymore now that I can and it won't crash every 5 after a 30 minute play session.
Jim Sterling put out a great video about this yesterday about how Hello Games did nothing but make the situation worse. They should not have let Sean Murray continue to promote the game the way he did. He went on the Stephen Colbert show and said specifically that there would be a multiplayer aspect in that you could come across other players in real time. He didn't dance around the question, he said YES.
Fair enough. I would look at when the game was coming out here and there but didn't read too much about it. I liked the premise about just being able to explore a bunch of procedurally generated planets and discover all that's on them, although it seems like even that part may have fallen a little flat. I'm still impressed with what they did with such a small team, but I'm probably only saying that because I didn't listen to much of the promises made.
Another thing they've been getting rightfully slammed for is that on the Steam page, the first thing you see is the E3 2014 trailer, which looks absolutely nothing like the finished game.
Its not completely without its worth but I would say its more a playable tech demo then a game at this point.
Even with a high number of planets possible you do encounter the same or nearly the same situations often.
Wildlife and Plant life seem to also be based on a modular system where there is a base which can have certain attachments picked randomly from a specific pool. You start to see the same life that you have seen before pretty quickly.
If it was a short game these flaws wouldn't be as bad ... but its a long, long grind with seemingly no reward at the end. Even the reward of being able to name stuff you discover is meaningless as you are almost certainly not visiting places you've been and its unlikely others will often visit either.
Right now I am mostly just finishing stuff out...this includes sitting doing nothing a toxic planet for something like 8 total hours to get that survive on a extreme planet thing to 10.
