I mean, yeah you can compare Peter Molyneux to Shaun Murray and it would be apt, but were there any games Molyneux hyped up that didn't turn out to still be fun? I was pretty pissed Fable didn't have like 90% of the shit he hyped, but I still had a ton of fun playing it.

That's why I said that Sean Murray makes Peter looks like a goddamn hero by comparison. Though Peter may have not 100% delivered on his promises, he still made a damn good game whereas Murray gave us a $60 glorified tech demo, took his money and probably built himself a hermit center to live the rest of his life. I don't think he will ever come back from this unless he fixes it, there is no undoing this kind of damage.

Were the naive morons also to blame for all buying it without question? Yes, no doubt. If I hadn't been broke, I might have bitten the bullet due to the free pass I gave NMS due to the premiere trailer and visuals alone. I wanted to avoid all and any sorts of information after what I had seen to explore the game blindly. One of my friend's sold his copy of Pokemon Heart Gold for the DS for $100 on ebay just to get this game on launch and I bet he wishes he can get a refund..

I will never give an unknown game company like Hello Games a free pass ever again and will do my damn research from now on. I do love watching trailers and hearing information on games, but there's a point where I tell myself I have seen enough to be convinced and don't want to spoil anything else like with Persona 5 and Final Fantasy XV, those games already look like they could be great games.

I don't think I've ever once felt burnt by a pre-order. Actually, maybe once, but I came around to really liking ffx-2 once I was old enough to not take it so seriously. But I also only pre-order things I'm absolutely positive will be good based on evidence instead of assumptions.

I think its because an "Indie" studio cant put out crap they have a lot more to lose then a AAA studio. Everyone will buy the AAA studio garbage because for the most part the average consumer doesn't want to be left behind when their friends have all the new stuff or are playing the yearly shit release of battlefront/cod/Insert sports title/assasins creed, etc. Indie studios don't have a pre-established market to bank on so delivering shit doesn't produce profit like it does for a AAA studio

Thats my take on it, and why I pre-order most indie titles I find look really interesting, or titles from small lesser known studios. NMS is the only time I've regretted spending money. If it were 15$ I would be happy. I already know though FF15 is going to be the next game I'm going to regret spending full price on though XD

I dunno, the day one reviews I saw were very mixed for NMS. I saw enough gameplay footage to dive in on it and enjoyed it pretty well for 3ish days. But none of the reviews or videos that I saw touched on the fact that there's so little to do beyond your first hour or two. The problems have been listed dozens of times throughout this thread so not going to touch them, but many of them don't become such massive problems until you realize "that's it" after only a few hours.

I'll be trying a refund with PSN tomorrow to see how it goes.

By the time it came out on PC I saw exactly what the game was and I bought it. I've enjoyed it as a 1-2hour session every couple of days chill out game. I would never blindly recommend this game but I saw what it was on twitch and knew it was my jam.
Maybe it helps that I didn't follow its development and expect it to be gods gift in video game form. Stop getting hyped for video game, you'll always be dissatisfied.
