Liking the game so far. Didn't take me too long to get used to the controls. Love the music, but I probably would have loved anything that wasn't remixed starfox 64 music for the nth time. That said there are some reused 64 tracks, but they sound great. The last boss can suck it though.

My understanding, if the reviewer spent more than 2 hours with the game they didn't mind the controls. Some reviewers just refused to play and gave a bad score.

There isn't a way to play with the pro controller is there? This has to use the gamepad like Splatoon?

Single player you need gamepad

Also, I've heard you get insane precision with the gamepad once everything "clicks"

Idk been playing it for like 30 minutes controls are shit. I also hate how all the sound is only coming from the gamepad and theres no way to make it come through the TV. I see no reason as to why this game shouldnt be compatible with the wii mote and nunchuk besides the fact of nintendo being deadset on making sure the gamepad idea for the console wasn't a waste. Tried to get through just using the game pad my aim was worse than free aiming on the TV. Once i got to the boss where it auto locks the whole fight taking the retical off the TV completely , i said fuck this. Basically its kirby and the rainbow curse all over, your TV is more or less useless for playing the game. I'll mess around with it more later but for now it just gave me a headache.
Absolutely no reason nunchuk and wiimote shouldn't be compatible just like kirby.

Edit: completely forgot to mention how stupid barrel roll controls are, you have to hit the right stick twice left or right to perform one. Thats not the problem, the problem is they should be mapped to the L and R buttons. I think bombs are on the R should button? that could have been mapped to ZL.

So the actual controls are ZL and L do nothing, ZR is lasers/charge shot R is bombs. Since 2 of the shoulder buttons are unused it really doesnt make sense barrel rolls cant be performed using L and R if they were just logical about button mapping.

Its cute because you have some writers saying that the concept of the game, and on-rails shooter that's a throwback, can't survive in modern times, which is absolute bullshit.

Good, fun-to-play games sell, period, especially in this viral age where the word WILL get out if a game is great. This star fox is just hamstrung by the decisions of one man forcing "innovation" for the sake of it, like we all knew was going to happen. I won't say the game is bad right now, because I don't truly believe it is, but I do know that not including an option for traditional controls is going to cost big N cash, at least in the short term.

Fair number of reviews seem to be indicating it's kind of a rush job either way...but yeah. I waited on release to see if there was the option to just straight play the game with the Pro Controller. No option for it, and it seems designed to make it a not-straightfoward thing to add. So, it's a no-buy for me. I think a lot of folks are in the same boat.

Played it a little more it just doesnt seem like controls i can ever become comfortable with. its a little better putting the cockpit view on the TV but the aiming can never be amazing unless my hands are just to shaky idk. And its definately terrible no matter what for bosses, steering, aiming and dodging when you have to keep looking between 2 screens to get all the information is just stupid.

2 player is really the only way this game seems to not be terrible but my friend sucks at gaming so i dont think i'll get getting the gold medal for missions.

Stuff didn't take long for me to click but at the same time I enjoyed The World Ends With You back on the DS. At the end of the day this game seems like it has a lot of forced design choices that couldn't mesh well together. I'm about to hit Sector Gamma, but so far the game seems to try to hit all the check marks that 64 did but fail to establish any mood. Example in the spoiler.

In a mission on the original run you fight off against Wolf. While I was trying to take him down, the game decided to swap to a cutscene where in Peppy just so slapped down to Titania with wolf proclaiming he was bored. Contrast to this where in 64 slippy got the shit slapped out of him because he got too close to the boss and you actually felt as though you were intervening.

Just tried the first level out using the black arwing from falco amiibo, its alot better finally got over 300 hits and can try a different level.

Edit: Just got 300 hits in the 2nd level too with the black arwing, enjoying it alot more now since i can accomplish that.
Controls still suck balls though, finding it easier doing cockpit view on the TV and with the black arwing

Yup. I was so excited for this game until I saw them force you to use the controls like this. It's the same reason why I stopped playing Splatoon, I could just never get used to it. Honestly the whole gimmick left a sour taste in my mouth and I won't buy the next console if these gimmicks continue.

You deal double damage and take double damage.
Edit: you also can always get 2 lock ons with the charged shot.

Teared me up when i saw Iwata's name in the credits. game was definitely fun, will look for the alternate stuff later on. Controls still have me confused regardless.

For people really struggling with the controls, try switching motion controls to "while firing only" or w/e instead of always on, that way you won't need to recenter the site as often and any motion you make with the controller while flying won't mess with your aim. Also you can turn 3D sound off if you want to use TV only for audio.
