Two journalists, Rania Khalek and Max Blumenthal, have become the target of death threats and online harassment from conservatives and Tea Party supporters for their criticism of the pro-Iraq War film American Sniper.

Khalek wrote on Friday that she and Blumenthal had aired their grievances with the film, which they see as glorifying the U.S. invasion of Iraq and lionizing a bloodthirsty killer who boasted of his pleasure in gunning down some 160 to 250 Iraqi “savages” during the height of the war.

This “kicked off an endless flood in our Twitter mentions of outraged rightwing military worshippers who’ve whipped themselves into a hateful frenzy out of blind obedience to a mass killer,” Khalek said.

wonder where the tipping point is where ISIS enrages too many powers to overcome. already they face the Iraqi army, both Syrian and Iraqi Kurdish polities, the FSA, the al-Nusra Front, Assad's regime, Hezbollah, Iran, the western air campaign, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia.

So its sounding like some ISIS suicide bombers tried to infiltrate Al-Asad airbase disguised as Iraqi soldiers, but didn't get very far. They were reportedly all killed by Iraqi forces that US Marines are currently training. There are approximately 300 US Marines on the base helping to train Iraqi soldiers, but they were not involved in the fighting.

the Iraqi army is planning a major offensive for the first time since their northern divisions collapsed last June, the aim is ISIS's de facto capital Mosul. Kurdish Peshmerga forces are advancing on the city from the north as Iraqi troops cautiously advance from the south and prepare for an urban assault into the city itself

“There will be a major counter offensive on the ground in Iraq,” retired Marine Corps General John Allen, the White House special envoy on the Islamic State, told Jordan's official Petra news agency a week ago. The operation is actually supposed to be an Iraqi army offensive supported by the anti-ISIS coalition firepower.

Kurdish Peshmerga forces have closed in on Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city, which has been in the hands of the so-called Islamic State since June. It’s been a hard-fought offensive that has flanked Mosul on three sides, but political paralysis and deep-seated sectarianism on the Iraqi side may well stall a battle to free this historic metropolis on the Tigris River from the bloody grip of ISIS.

By the end of January there were 4,500 US troops in Iraq.
