You can technically be in full AF2 and still have Carbuncle as a SMN as long as you don't complete the lvl 45 quest but that SMN has a relic book which you can't get unless you finish all the quests.

I don't think anyone expected anything other than a massive grind. Everything they've added since 2.2 has been a massive grind. Certainly not a game for casuals.

Massive grinds that are not mandatory and can be done very casually. Unlike another game from this same company I'd say.

When all the content becomes a grind it's either grind or don't play. Playing is always optional so yes not mandatory, but if you want to play you're going to be grinding.

The only real grind is the relic quest past the very first one, everything else comes naturally by actually playing the game and doing a bunch of different content. I cap soldiery without even thinking about it by thursday. Myths at launch were a grind because you had to spam AK for a while, now it's something you don't even need to do thanks to roulettes. And even the relic quests can be done casually although you'll be behind everyone else. This game is super casual (which is not a bad thing btw) outside of Coil.

If this game was so 'super casual' it would have had this from the start:

They bother to adjust the time of weekly reset (did that even 'help'?), but didn't think it would be smarter to implement a tag system?

I disagree, but I don't really want to get deep into another discussion about grinds.

I guess I don't care if something is grindy if it is fun (these hunts sound fun), my problem is more when it's tedious to do it once nevermind grind it or when it involves insanely low droprates or long waits. Hunts sound fun and the reward is guaranteed, kinda like the weekly Soldiery so I'm fine with that stuff.

I wonder if there's incentive to help each other on the weekly reward (other than them helping you too of course), maybe you get some smaller additional reward for that too? Would make it go quicker if you're willing to help out a lot. Don't think I've read anything about it so remains to be seen

Reminder they said knowing when weather conditions would appear would be a factor in Hunts. (Probably Elite Marks, since normal ones seem to be reg mobs)

I have no great excitement knowing that the weather is strict enough for them to implement a weather forecaster to help. Lord knows Vistas was annoying enough with specific weather + one Eorzean hour windows.

That's disappointing. The vistas sounded great but I lost interest as soon as people started complaining about the weather requirements. No doubt these hunts will involve standing around for 3 hours waiting for a half hourly chance the weather will pop so we can fight our mob. I think I've played that game before except we camped the mob not the weather.

I'm sure it'll work the same as any other quest requiring mob kill credit. As long as you had enough hate or did enough damage you'll get credit regardless of if you claim or are in the main party. Honestly given SE's track record I would not at all be surprised that the Elite NMs are special FATEs that spawn under certain conditions and credit is given as long as you get a Gold or some nonsense.

Concerning the reward I think it's a bit too early to say how much of a grind it will be without knowing how the items you can purchase are priced. Chances are prices will be scaled with the low reward amount and you'll see Alex going for 5-10 seals and armor for 30-50 etc. Plus according to that screenshot it seems you get 5 Normal Hunts per day assuming Normal and Elite are their own separate categories.

The only event locked behind timewalls is Coil, everything else can be freely accessed whenever you want. Unlike FFXI that required a specific currency to enter pretty much every single activity.
To me casual means you can do things on your own and still progress, which is exactly what 90% of XIV is. Even the super grindy relic quests involve spamming FATEs (can be done solo), farm myths (requires 3 other people but hey, we have DF and PF making parties for us on top of myth rewards for pretty much any activity), clearing those books (again, mostly solo stuff) and farming for maps/materia. What exactly isn't casual about this? The only complaint is being unable to gear multiple roles or jobs easily because of lockouts but that doesn't make the game less casual, the real problem is that there aren't enough options for gear. In 2.3 we'll have soldiery, hunt and CT sets which is enough to gear 6 jobs if you want. Also adding sands and oils to more content will help those jobs that otherwise wouldn't see many from Coil.
Just compare these relic quests with those from XI and you'll see what I mean by "super casual".

It's not casual because it can't be done in a single day!

Anyone see the de-synth stuff yet?

    "Retrieving Items
Breaking down an item with Desynthesis will primarily yield materials used to create the item. On occasion, players will also receive special items that can only be obtained through use of Desynthesis.

These special items can then be used in new recipes available in the coming update."

Looks like glowy primal weapons, too. Hate the look of the Ifrit sword but if flames jump off of it?

Yep, and I also saw the XI-esque 300-point desynth skill point limit, complete with XI's silliness about lowering your other skills if you try to push beyond the limit.
