why do people think that it's a problem? it just offers more flexibility, people who want to do it the current way still can. how does it hurt the game if someone goes on vacation for a week and comes back to a 900 soldiery cap limit instead of 450?

Salvage from XI is a good example of a grind done properly with a time wall, you always got something beneficial out of it for either yourself or those that participated with you, and if you were fortunate to get 35 gear then you probably completed a full piece that day. I was in one of those groups that saw 35s fairly regularly at least once every 2-3 runs if memory serves to be correct. Just never Usu feet because fuck that bee.

0.005% drop rate might be more accurate

Is this supposed to be a rare mindset? Dailies are incredibly stupid to me. Who the hell wants to log onto a game every day like it's a job to get stuff done? I'd much rather spent a large amount of hours in a row doing the same amount of work back to back instead of splitting it up. The challenge log is an example of that type of implementation.

Remember in ye olde 1.0 when leves were dailies?

Remember how much everyone hated that and they eventually fixed it so they accumulated?

Good, now do that with a ton of other lockout mechanics.

Meh, it would be nice. But it's not exactly a big deal if you miss your lockouts.

Looking at it from a financial standpoint, which in the end any choices made in any MMO really boil down too...
What should the stored cap be.. should there even be a stored cap? If the cap is high or does not exist what stops people from paying for the month there is a patch, grinding the hell out of stuff, and then desubbing for 2 months? The dailies and weekly stuff is there to keep you logging in and paying. If more people are logging in and playing SE has more money to bring more content so more people keep logging in and playing so they make more money.

That's pretty much what the complainers here don't understand, there has to be some give and take, and it can't just be me, me, me. There has to be some way for SE to keep you coming instead of doing like you said, grinding hard, and then quitting until more stuff comes. I at least think that's what the lockout is for, to stretch out content and for the loot to be the carrot in front of you. It basically seems people want to endlessly be in a dungeon to get their gear, but guess what, that was 1.0. People loved those drop rates for darklight right? People are complaining how it is now, but just the same they'd complain if they had it their way with spammable dungeons with good drop rates, but have literally nothing to do because they rushed the content hard and capped out.

That's exactly what the lockout is for, you are 100% correct. To keep players playing while they develop new content. The problem is the way the lockout is implemented, it totally prevents you from helping others, etc... forcing the 8 man statics etc. I dont understand why they didnt' just do a gear type lockout similar to CT. I totally understand you need to keep your players playing, but it's not effective right now, I look at my FC all week long 3 maybe 4 of us log in during the week now outside of coil.

    Meanwhile, in F2P land...

Anyway, stringing people along like this is just an argument of convenience. The fear that everyone will have everything maxed in a week is some OF tier BS. The last time Yoshi spoke on how people were progressing in Coil, he had the numbers at about 10%. So, maybe 100-150k players at the time? I don't really see that number growing significantly as we start transitioning from the hardcore to casual, and part of the casual restriction is a matter of time, and time is pretty much grinding's bedfellow.

That said, I haven't played since 2.1. Were I to resub now, all those weeks I haven't been around for the existence of those new tomes and their caps just means I'm that many weeks behind. It doesn't really matter how good I may be as a player, if someone wanted me in their T7 group or later, odds are I simply can't due to the gear wall and being an i90 scrub last I played. So, sure, there's some degree of selfishness in always wanting personal progression to be available, but let's not pretend XIV would implode on itself if people not only had endgame things they could always be doing toward that goal, but also a variety of them. And no, I don't just mean more dungeons and more coil and more CT. Because as someone NOT subbing in part because I'm sick of punching weekly/daily time clocks, SE could feasibly gain people like me back to offset those few who do get "bored" by over-playing.

To be clear: I never said you should get a "stored cap" for months you don't pay. You pay, you get a credit if you weren't able to do your daily/weekly/monthly w/e, it is that simple.

Leves are essentially solo content. If you do them daily or once a month, it doesn't affect the game's community. In contrast, if people save up their "tomestone licenses" for 3 months, log in for the first week after a patch and grind dungeons non-stop until they have all the new gear, then disappear, it significantly affects the game's community.

That's not to say that I agree with the anti-social implementation of coil lockouts; it would be better if you could only open two treasure chests per turn per week but enter as many times as you liked.

Weren't people pissed when CT originally came out because it essentially followed that path? Mad that they could enter as much as they wanted, but could only get a single drop a week?

People are going to complain about every decision ever made in this game. Ever. SE knows that. They've just gotta make a decision that they feel they can live with, and then live with it.

Yup, in part because it was already a tier behind myth/coil gear. Granted, even if it was equal, I'd have no beef with a persistent lack of lockout (though I might encourage drops becoming class-specific). Abyssea kept casuals busy for a long time under this mechanic, but Tanaka deemed it all a mistake, so whatever.

Keep in mind that I said you could only open two chests per turn per week, not collect gear. CT's model was different in that you could simply run it until you got the piece of gear you wanted that week, which is not how coil gear is metered. Changing to the "open chests" model would keep coil loot distribution the same, but eliminate the current problem of when your FC has a number of members that's not a multiple of 8.

And yes, people will be mad whatever you do. They will be mad if you make drop rates higher, or if you make drop rates lower, or if you reduce lockouts, or if you increase them. That doesn't mean you should just do nothing.
