Prepare for disappointment.
Prepare for disappointment.
Reversal: Prepare to be shocked at new expansion announcement.
If Yoshi-P doesn't talk about the expansion on the 17th, he's essentially lying about stating he will talk about the expansion some odd 5 months ago.
08/25/2014:
Is there any information you can reveal about the expansion pack?
We've decided the title of it, and the art has also been progressing smoothly. We've created some loose field mock-ups with just some rough geometry to try walking around and checking the size to see how and where we can add FATEs, quests, or larger enemies, and decide some of the details based on that. We completed the mock-ups, so we're now progressing through some of this work now. We've also finished some preliminary checks on some of the dungeons. I think people all over the world want to know more about the expansion pack, and we definitely want to reveal more information, so I hope everyone is looking forward to the Fan Festivals. You've announced Ninja as a new DPS job, but will you also be adding new healer and tank jobs?
This will be the last class and job implemented in the 2.0 series. I think you know the rest... there should be some new announcements around October 17. We're already working on some of the animations. So I mean, don't be shocked if they suddenly blow out the venue room with news on the new expansion, including the new jobs and areas. I expect at best we will get jobs, areas, and a couple of new monsters as well as unknown NPC faces. Doubtful we will get any potential storyline outside of very vague Ishgard musings, because Yoshi-P would likely rather the 2.X storyline to fully play out into the expansion. The level cap will be raised in the new expansion. A whole new raid will be introduced, and you don’t need to complete The Binding Coil series to undertake this new one. More information about the new expansion will be released around October 17th so stay tuned.
I can definitely see the Red Mage job being added with the expansion. Half the skills you would expect for the job are already in the game for the mobs. And Alexander being tied into Ishgard as well.
Various en spells and spikes skills already belong to some of the Beastmen as well as haste and slow skills
Idk how they'd translate that into an actual job function.
Mobs don't have elemental strengths or weaknesses and Slow and Blind are effected by DR, nvm that anything worth using them on is immune to the effects anyway, likewise something like Paralyze would never work on anything you'd want it to work on (a la Pacification).
But there's Heavy! It's just like Gravity.
Therefore, RDM confirmed.
I don't think we'll see RDM à la FFXI. If they do add it, it'll probably be a magic tank of sorts. Before Bard turned out to be the Bard it really is I was hoping for a more support type role. A supportive role in this game falls into healer tho. Which is what we don't need. We need more tanks, which is the reason they're adding Ninja... so RDM maybe might not be a magic tank who knows wtf they'll do. Wish we had FFXI BRD in FFXIV tho :\
HYPE!
<3
So for those of you going, what time are you arriving? My hotel mates are not getting in til like 5 pm, Whereas I'm getting in around 1pm or so. I'm not gonna have a lack of anything to do, but I'll have to lug my bag around a while because we onlybooked 2 rooms under 2 people, instead of saying there were more and it's like $800 extra.
Could go for some drinks or food with people if they're waiting around a bit.
Hoping for the backline RDM of XI wouldn't work, as it seems some are realizing. On the other end, trying to spin the job into a tank seems a bit too ambitious.
Keeping things simple, I'd anticipate a fencer-themed sword combo or two, of which Death Blossom would likely be a part of. Maybe even Chant du Cygne. The enspells some have noted, perhaps with varying effects per element since the element itself won't mean much. A single target cure, but never really strong enough to raid heal. Perhaps Dia doubling as an offensive nuke and DEF down effect. More could be added from there, sure, but I really hope Yoshi doesn't recreate the Haste/Refresh whore.
Autoattack based DD (self haste, enspells, maybe autoattack potency buffs) with debuffs (vuln up, dtm down, etc) and assorted physical magic hybrid weaponskills would be a unique dd class. Though I guess we have to see how ninja turns out
All these things could be flipped rather easily, but it's easy to see why they don't have it in place right now. BLM would be screwed if it had to choose between Ice, and Fire as its primary source. Something resistant to fire? Well I guess I just spam blizzard.
What they could do is add an ability kind of like transpose that changes Blizzard to Water, and Fire to Dark/Shadow magic. Fire 1-3 would become Darkness 1-3. Astral Fire could become Aspect of Destruction, and Umbral Ice could become Aspect of Wisdom. Firestarter procs could have a chance to spark access to a spell that has a both Dark and Fire elements aligned to them. Darkness could have its own special setup for how it works, it wouldn't have to mimic how fire works at all.
Pacification is a pretty strong debuff so it only makes sense that raid bosses are immune to it, could you imagine just pacify locking anything in the current content for 10s? That is a whole lot of recovery time where the only deadly thing the boss can do is auto attack or cast a spell.
Public-space knowledge of Trademarks wins again. New title should be "FFXIV: [Blue] Skies/Sky of Ishgard." (Probably just shortened to "Skies of Ishgard" for NA localization). Definitely going to get the expansion bomb at Fan Fest now. The HEAVENSWARD to me doesn't seem like the trademark name for a Final Fantasy XIV expansion, maybe for patch 2.5, or something else SE related.
probably not related to XIV, yeah. I remember there being some kind of thing called Rage of Bahamut or w/e that people speculated to be an XI expac which ended up being a mobile game.
On the flipside of this, we have FFXI expansion Soldiers of Altana vs Wings of the Goddess. The localization chief has already mentioned they like to use more abstract/symbolic naming for work outside of japan while they do something more direct for the Japanese audience (this obviously bleeds into some of the more... flavorful localization liberties with quest names and the like). HEAVENSWARD may indeed be something different, but the two were trademarked at the same time with ID's right next to each other, and normally you wouldn't expect a japanese only text to be the title for the game when it releases in the NA. If I remember correctly the trademarks for all the FFXI expansions and A Realm Reborn were all trade marked around the same time in each of their respective release territories complete with title names.
not to mention, ishgard is fighting against the dragons. hence, heavensward may be a reference to clear skies over ishgard, as in there's a ward protecting the heavens from dragons.
I'm excited... New expansion = new OST!!!!!!
