from the patient's perspective, that's the real trick. balancing compliance with the question "is my doctor a fucking idiot?" which is a major concern, particularly with chronic conditions.
even good doctors can dismiss their patients' legitimate complaints if the patient is too timid to express them properly. i've run into some of that. i kept thinking they were the professionals, they knew best... but they weren't listening to what i was trying to say. they just heard "i think" and "im not sure" and thought i was being literal, rather than simply expressing my lack of training/experience.
