Why does science ruin everything.
Fucking Science. Ruining my Cable & Deadpool montage!
Dope cameo by the comic book guy from the Simpsons
I would think of it less as teleportation, than of simply following a four-dimensional object. You aren't teleporting to a new point; you're tracing the temporal path of an object through its own relative time. I mean, we're traveling at hundreds of thousands of miles per hour-- we don't feel it because science, but it's there. Similarly, I don't think of a time machine as going to a fixed point in absolute terms-- it's traveling relative to the Earth (which is relative to the solar system, which is relative to the etc....), so it's time traveling would be similarly relative to the Earth. It's not going to "feel" that shift in absolute space; it's going to remain relative to its inertia-ball.
Yes, but they leave out the major part of the calculations. Vector, speed and ac(de)celeration of the earth within the solar system, solar system within the galaxy and galaxy through the universe are the larger part of the calc. (with some of the variables being unknown to us at this point).
Are you talking about the fact that GPS satellites have to account for the time difference in their clocks relative to earth, or are you talking about a GPS program calculating different speeds on different roads to arrive at a mean travel time?
Not that either of those two particular calculations are super hard but the latter is nothing more than aggregating a shitload of data.
As ffxi guy and comics said though, the satellites account for their time difference relative to earth, but assuming that time travel wasn't a wormhole opened between two points (earth future, earth past, earth present) you'd have to account for the following factors, not all of which we can do accurately: Orbit decay of Earth/Sun, Earth/Moon, any influence by random asteroids or comets, any influence by Star systems we may get closer to, mass loss/gain of the Sun, fucking Jupiter, speed of the solar system and changes in its orbital plane, speed or objects in our area of the Milky Way which could change based on more/less dark matter(tm), expansion of spacetime and the speed it is expanding relative to where you want to jump in time, speed / orbits of the local group of which there have already been galaxies eaten by other galaxies so if you want backwards there might be a different variable, forwards we have a fairly good idea what is going to happen but no way of knowing how it would shake up, local groups speed/orbit within the virgo supercluster and we're already talking about shit we can't calculate to the extent you could put a man 1000 years in the future at the same spot on Earth so yeah.
god dammit jupiter, first you smother our younger sibling, then you fuck up our time travel and shit. get your shit together. just, yknow, not too much of it.
so you're saying there's a chance
With the current theory of how to make time travel actually possible. Position of the earth in space and whatnot isn't a concern. Using the two portals and only being able to go back to point of creation of the portal and end point being the dismantling of the portal.
So, think of a piece of paper with holes at either end. You can only travel between the two holes, nowhere before or after.
That's been the big one i've been following as of late, anyways.
I said current theory, not currently being made.
???
Atelier, a fairly fun JRPG.
