I love it when hackers use their ski masks. It has fallen out of fashion now-a-days.

Maybe these celebrities should've watched that movie "Sex Tape" with Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel where they make a sex tape and it gets uploaded to the cloud and accidentally distributed to all of their friends. There is no such thing as secure or safe on the internet. You have to have the mindset that whatever you post or save online will eventually be seen by someone else.

All that aside, it doesn't make it right that someone accessed it and distributed it. At all.

The women who were affected, distributed it the moment they put it online. Absolutely nothing is safe online. I don't see why they should get any sympathy for things most of us here learned loooooooooooong ago.

I'm not going to argue this anymore. It's a violation of privacy. This is the same reason I get upset with people who break up with someone and then post revenge nudes. Those weren't meant for public consumption, and it is a violation of someone's personal autonomy. It would be different if they posted the pictures on Twitter, but they didn't. They posted it on a password protected network that, regardless of its security, was not meant to be accessed by whoever the hell wanted.

    This ^

I understand that they feel their security was violated, but they are hiding behind the idea that whatever you put online is 100% safe. Yes it is sad that this happens, and yes it is wrong, but if anything this is a wake-up call for those who didn't learn about the dark side of the internet years ago. The instant a "moment" is captured, be it photograph, audio, or video, there is evidence of said moment that can be found under the right circumstances.

Of course not, but at the same time, I'm not gonna be like "omg I can't look! It wasn't meant for me!"

That said, I did some distribution once, but that was personal, lol. Brother's gf gets pissed at him and sends nudes to me and his friends to piss him off. So I just forwarded that to everyone on her facebook, including her son, lol. I didn't want to see that nasty bitch lol

On one hand, you should pretty much assume that you shouldn't take any pictures you wouldn't want to end up on the internet. On the other hand, it's not like they posted these on facebook with the "private" flag on. They took them on their personal phones and then backed up with icloud. Most people outside the IT sector would assume those to be pretty secure.

Also even Apple makes it perfectly clear in their iCloud EULA

"Content” means any information that may be generated or encountered through use of the Service, such as data files, device characteristics, written text, software, music, graphics, photographs, images, sounds, videos, messages and any other like materials. You understand that all Content, whether publicly posted or privately transmitted on the Service is the sole responsibility of the person from whom such Content originated. This means that you, and not Apple, are solely responsible for any Content you upload, download, post, email, transmit, store or otherwise make available through your use of the Service.
This doesn't clear them of blame in the security breach but it does put some responsibility on the people that uploaded the photos to their iCloud account.

and to touch on this. Never take a photo you're not okay with everyone seeing. Is it their own fault? I don't think so, but it is retarded to expect randoms to respect your privacy. I look at every situation as everyone is out to get me, and I play my hand accordingly.

People can argue whether it was okay or wrong to leak the nudes all day, and regardless of who is right, when it's all said and done, in the words of my uncle, "You may be right, but how'd that work out for you?"

Then don't put it online lol. It is that fuckin simple. Thinking it is safe "in the cloud" is like thinking the whole world is full of good people. Just because it isn't meant to be accessed by anyone, doesn't mean it won't get accessed once you put it online. Seriously, why aren't parents nowadays teaching (especially celeb) kids this? It would be the first thing I'd tell my daughter once she got a smartphone.

If there is no supply online, the demand can scream all it wants, it won't get served.

    Things That Confuse
    1. People allow private images like that to be put onto a third party server, especially one that is likely to be the target of exploits for the purpose of gaining private information.
    2. People continue to try to rationalize how what they're doing is not wrong for the flimsiest reasons, as though anyone actually cares. You want to look at someone's private photos. Don't try to act like you've got just cause, because you don't.
    3. People still care about nudity. Not just the people going after pictures, but everyone. What's the big deal? We're all naked under our clothes and the rich and famous don't look any different.
    4. People still blame the victims. They deserve it for putting their photos online or being stupid? Sure, that makes sense.
    5. The details of this exploit. There was apparently a vulnerability in iCloud, but I've heard a few other explanations for what happened that may not be specific to Apple. Was it a targeted attack or something more systemic? I haven't seen a good writeup, but it would be interesting to see just how wide this breach was.

I suppose it is slightly encouraging to think that a large number of people who disagree with you are doing it simply to get a reaction, even though they probably believe that there is nothing wrong with what is going on. It is disheartening that so many people are ok with private photos being shared and traded simply because they were stored online. You can try to rationalize it all you want, but someone making a mistake is not an excuse to be malicious. It is baffling that those words even need to be typed. I wonder where the line is drawn. If unintentionally putting something online means it is your fault and you deserve whatever happens, does that mean having your password stolen means you deserve whatever happens as result of that, because you should've know better than to have an online banking account? It really is a rather hilarious and indefensible position to take.

Interestingly enough, all these problems could've been prevented multiple times over simple by anyone involved having the smallest bit of kindness or decency. Too bad humans were involved.
