I'm a teacher over here in the UK. I have Strong Opinions about this kind of stuff. Opinions that generally end in me going "you're a fucking idiot if you think the teacher-student relationship isn't fucking sacrosanct and anyone who violates that position of trust doesn't deserve a long walk off a short fucking pier."
At my university's postgrad stuff they would have "generic education" lectures for everyone in every subject, and then smaller seminars for the individual subjects. I don't need to know how to get kids to understand the square of the hypotenuse, because I don't teach maths.
In one of the early generic lectures, the lecturer told us about someone who was on the primary (elementary to you Yanks) programme a few years back. Apparently, in the bar with their coursemates, they were doing a whole "well why did you want to be a primary school teacher" discussion. His answer was something along the lines of "I don't think I'd be able to trust myself with Year 12 girls..." (Year 12 is 11th grade).
That creeped out his coursemates enough that it eventually reached his tutor. He was encouraged not to pursue a career in education.
Yep. Not only immoral but incredibly illegal. Some fucking weirdo over here in the UK had a Europe-wide manhunt out for him after absconding to France with a 15-year-old student. In term-time. They went on the run after someone found a picture of the teacher in his boxer shorts on her phone. Fucking maths teachers.
People were all like "ooh, French consent laws mean their relationship's okay over there!" Nope. Degenerate and wine-soaked as our Gallic cousins may be, they draw the line at diddling your students.

Plenty of charges filed over this side of the Atlantic. Quite often the cases get settled out of court for obscene amounts of money because no school wants to be known as "the one with the rapey teachers." Teacher in question gets struck off the register of qualified teachers, possibly put on a sex offenders registered, but it's usually very hushed up.

Never understood teachers who'd find their students attractive. They're teenagers. Can't have a conversation with 'em and their popular culture is terrible.

Even if they look nice, they're what, seventeen? No idea what they're doing. Blind passionate fumbling is fine when you're both seventeen, but I haven't been seventeen for a good long time.
I care about my subject (History) in general, but I'm teaching Henry the fucking VIII at the moment to Year 8 (uh.. what's that, 7th grade? I dunno. They're 12.). I do not give a single fuck about Henry VIII. Fortunately I'm able to fake enthusiasm so well that the kids don't even notice I'm dead behind the eyes.

There'll always be stuff on the syllabus you don't care for. Just have to teach it as well as you can, and put your all into the stuff you really care about.
