Was an enjoyable etappe today, glad to see Lotto-Belisol's plan worked and it was indeed a big win for Tony Martin, so close to Germany. Well done.
Yeah Contador being out will make it that much easier for Nibali to win. I expect him to take it now.
So what does Tony Gallopin do after losing the yellow jersey? Win the next freaking stage lol
This should be an interesting finish. Nibali is almost isolated already, Valverde burned through his teammates in the first few kms of the climb, Porte still has Nieve, VDB's there but alone as well and there are a few in the group aiming solely for the stage win; so there should be quite a bit of animation.
Edit: Porte is falling behind. He's going to lose a time of time, Nieve trying to minimise the damage, but Porte looks completely cooked.
E²: Konig makes a bid for the stage, Majka counters.
E³: Valverde launches at full speed! Nibali counters with Pinot.
Group 1: Konig & Majka.
Group 2: Valverde, Nibali, Pinot, Ten Dam.
Group 3: Van Garderen, Bardet, VDB, Mollema, Bardet, Zubeldia, Frank Schleck. The White Jersey might change shoulders today.
E4: Nibali attacks! Nobody can follow.
Group 1: Nibali, Konig & Majka.
Group 2: Valverde & Pinot.
Group 3: Van Garderen, Bardet, VDB, Mollema, Bardet, Zubeldia, Frank Schleck.
VDB's too nice, honestly. He just worked for his small group almost the whole climb, including his direct opponents like Mollema and Peraud... and then they all sprinted to finish before him.
Big win for the Tinkoff-Saxo team today after their GC rider Alberto Contador crashed earlier in the race. Great ride by Rafal Majka for the win and Nibali for extending his lead even further.
Yeah, Majka played it very well and Nibali is a class above the rest. Short of injury, I don't see him losing that jersey any time. Might even take the dots as well.
VDB seems to be in poor form this year; this isn't the VDB that finished 4th and 5th of the Tour.
Too bad, with so many GC riders out of the race, he had a good chance to finish 3rd or even 2nd.
Today's stage should be quite boring, 99.98% chance of a sprint finish, so no point to watch until the last 5 km.
Barring a huge collapse in the time trial tomorrow, Nibali has won. Great Tour this year so far. Can't wait for the Vuelta.
Well a great 3 weeks of racing. Can't wait til the Vuelta.
NBC Sports is already sporting ads for this years tour. After missing all the coverage of the giro (what little there is), this is getting me excited and helping to build my motivation to get out on my own bike more often.
Any early predictions here?
