i feel that's the standing judgement for many/most American observers (Hamas has always been hated here and 60%ish of Americans now disapprove of the assault on Gaza). the loudest just tend to drown out other discussion as usual and the pro-Israeli bias in our media and government is intense.

that said using that fundamental basis (which i share) to both sides it and pretend there's a hard ethical equivalency between the Israelis and the Palestinians is moral cowardice of the first order.

yeah, there's a big difference between saying Palestinians and Hamas. Lots of people do not want to make that distinction.

polling in wartime is nebulous but it's always wild to me people ignore p much every poll done among Palestinians in years that show the majority don't support Hamas. they would probably lose a free election tomorrow (as would Fatah certainly). Pallies deserve better leaders.

tldr support for Hamas at 34%, before the war it was 12%(!), war fever/solidarity temporarily spiked it to 42% in December. the Palestinians do not like Hamas but it will be a long time before Western media explores that facet of the conflict.

Tbf a big part of the problem there is that "Palestinian Authorities" generally speaking means Hamas. If you're already coming into it with a certain viewpoint, it can be pretty easy for one to just automatically look at any news from the Palestinian side as "well this is just terrorist propaganda"

roughly 3/5 independent Palestinians live in the West Bank under Fatah rule rather than 2/5 in Gaza under Hamas rule (along with 1.5 million in Israel and millions more in foreign exile). only those with profound and fundamental ignorance of the region would think Palestinian authorities generally indicates Hamas, regardless of the issue of identifying an entire peoples by their government in a place that has gone without elections for 20 years, and the last ones resulted in civil war.

I wrote a small tampermonkey script to automatically change the shorts/{id} link to the watch?v={id} link style when actually on the Youtube site. I just uploaded it to my github. You can get it here.

Edit: Wrote the script a while ago when YT shorts started to take off. I absolutely hate the volume controls and the "scroll" functionality.
