Israel wasn't always run by such hard-liners, just like Gaza wasn't always run by Hamas. But yeah, as long as these two are in power, furthering "the two-state solution" is unlikely - it just won't always be the case.

Blood and blackened remnants are caked on the bathroom floor. The walls have been drenched in blood and they are pocked with scores of bullet holes that look as if they were fired from an automatic weapon at waist level. It is a democracy, things can change rapidly. Actually, the Palestinian attacks are largely what got them elected in the first place (attacks that were largely due to settlements, which were in response to a lack of action on Isreali security concerns... not pointing fingers at the cause, just saying the immediate cause was terrorist attacks).

Posting from phone so hard to link, but a reporter (from India I think) just reported with video evidence of Hamas militants setting up rockets to fire into Israel hours before the cease fire began all from a tent they erected next to a hotel with civis and journalists.
