really the most feasible way for Israel to get a favorable and permanent peace with serious Palestinian concessions would be to fuel development in the West Bank, enter the friendliest possible relations with Fatah, relax all controls there, and establish so superior a standard of living and fairer form of governance that Gazans would enviously compare the misery of their plight with their brothers there and come to the table.

but that would require them to be actually interested in Palestinian statehood, which they are not, and cease the endless settlement construction in the West Bank, which they will not.

And, @AG, it ignores that Israel doesn't have a constitution because they cannot agree on their own form of government. The knesset is basically if the constitutional convention just kept going and acted like parliament. Iirc the major fault line there was between theocrats and liberal democrats.

Good luck getting those guys to come up with a more equitable form of government for Palestinians.

it's a meaningless query but Hamas derives near the entirety of its appeal from the oppression of the Palestinians and the excesses of the Israelis. they would likely exist in one form or another for some time but popular support for them would collapse in the absence of such. one of the benefits of making a people responsible for their own governance is their leaders become responsible for good governance. they either serve the people, jobs and food, or get yeeted out (eventually).

but also there would likely be a Palestinian Civil War between them and Fatah. easily and often forgotten but the majority of Palestinians do not live in Gaza under Hamas rule, but rather Fatah in the West Bank.

It's pretty crazy at the current patch of FF14 literally has two groups of people, one feeling beholden to and under the foot of another and the struggles of giving them their independence to feel that they can carry their own weight and not be beggars, and how if you don't do that the oppressed will lash out.

Hamas would shrivel up if Israel wasn't shooting fucking reporters and young people in the knees during protests:

I kind of felt the same way that it is expected to happen and there will be a loss of life, but after finding out late last night that a friend of the family lost two of their daughters who were at the festival, all I feel is sadness for all of the innocent people involved..

Yeah, I think that's what I lack right now: that personal element. Its still so far away from me and I don't have any personal stakes, so hearing that a war that's been going on for nearly as long as humanity itself has existed is flaring up again just... doesn't move the needle like a war should. It just feels like another act in the same, tired stage play, and a lot of it comes down to the fact that there's no end in sight. The same actors, the same setting, the same justifications in the story. Again and again and again, and you know 30 years, 300 years; hell, 3,000 years down the road, it'll still be happening. The era doesn't matter. The tech doesn't matter. Until one of the two actors are completely wiped out of existence, this will continue, again and again...
