My point is that without the liberal international order, nothing holds people back from embracing the basest and cruelest manifestations of our biological drives.

The periods of peace AG is referring to are the result of institutions that created periods of international stability which restrain bad actors on the international stage. This period of chaos is the result of those institutions failing.

Oscillation between peace and chaos, change, is not a necessity. The progress towards peace comes by improving upon those institutions. That also means we most shore up the building blocks of those institutions - neoliberal democratic governance. It is the only path forward.

If we're doing this parallel, in the end Ridills are just like assault rifles. They are nice equipment to have for the grunts (who are necessary) and something the populace fawns over.

But international hegemony is created through the machines of war - jets, carriers, and tanks. It's the BLM nukers, the RDM and BRD mana batteries, etc. that carry a linkshell (country) to victory.
