They actually said 500 "victims" or "casualties" (dead+wounded) and it was mistranslated to "deaths" by the entirety of western media.

From the investigation, it's likely that they all took the Al Jazeera English's bad translation (or just piggy backed each other) and ran with it, even though none of them actually cited AJE.

I think people just figured it was true because it's not like Israel wouldn't do shit like that. Same as people assume the Hamas HQ being under a hospital is also probably true because yeah they would do that too
