the thing is; from the israeli point of view they're actually having a lot of success atm

hamas confirmed a couple weeks back that one of their senior military commanders in the gaza ayman nofal was killed by the idf, which has just made the idf more bold through all of this. now they truly don't give a fuck and they're taking out targets left and right uncaring of the body count

the idf really are killing hamas members, but they're killing thousands to do it. which just sounds like the middle east in a nutshell

from the Israeli point of view they certainly think so, but as stated above there is no killing your way to a win in a war like this. every instance of collateral damage engenders a dozen more volunteers for Hamas, every episode of brutality hardens generational Palestinian hatred, and the senior military leadership of Hamas are not some irreplaceable high value war-school trained strategic thinkers. they are dirt from Gaza or the camps, survivors of the endless conflicts, at best some training from Iran or Hezbollah, and easily replaced by the rising generation of veterans.

to put it another way, Israel has been warring periodically with the occupied Palestinian territories since 1968. there have been 5 formal wars and endless skirmishes since they left Gaza in 2006. it has elected its most hawkish cabinet under Netanyahu for 14 consecutive years. and it just suffered the worst terrorist attack, by far, in its history.

nothing Israel has done has made it safer. the dozens of Hamas leaders assassinated, thousands of prisoners taken, tens of thousands of bombs dropped and rounds fired. it has all made Israel less safe than ever. the caveman ooga booga gotta bash the enemy harder thinking is exactly what does not work in a war like this, and it is a fuckin tragedy Americans have forgot that so quickly after Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan.

Both Hamas and Israel know exactly what they're doing. Israel doesn't care about the collateral damage from their strikes and Hamas will keep using them as human shields and could very well be forcing them to stay in the area.

You do understand that when people use human shields you're response isn't suppose to be "fuck it" and kill the hostages anyway.
