I can't believe people use retaliate for daily dungeons or trash before bosses
I can't believe people use retaliate for daily dungeons or trash before bosses
And I can't fight this feeling anymore...
Surprised you're not getting in on this Sath. Not sure who you agree with, or if you agree with anyone, but I thought you lived for this kind of thing
I think retaliate is stupid as shit but I'm just not in the mood to fight over freemium game mechanics tonight.
i like casting raise on undead things, am I a bad person
I can't believe people still use advantaliate nowadays, it's almost like auto-attacking your way through the hardest battles. Like what's the point in even playing if you just want to cheese your way through anything remotely difficult when everything below that difficulty can be auto-attacked to death.
Man it's now either a troll fest, or people are just dumb
don't worry, advantaliate isn't an undefeated strat like people are saying, it's actually 6-1
keep pounding
Once again the reason why Retaliate or Advantaliate (w/e) is cheap is because on how people use it.
Normal retaliate is useless because you have to 'pray' RNG that mob will hit you, but with Advan or retaliate you can go like 1 Strong player (usually cloud) 3 weak players and a healer, and you can just make the weak players attack or use double cut on the Retaliator which will make him counter for inside amount of damage at the cost of '1 attack'
That makes people clear stuff they are not suppose to or just beeing lazy, by having to focus on 1 character instead of trying to gear up most characters.
Tauntaliate is different if used correctly, because all you do is force the mob to hit 1 player, but the others still need to be actually competent, to attack the monster (unless they cheap out and do like normal retaliate)
Retaliate also have the possibility to counter AOE physical where reflect does not.
And just like human beeing usually do, if they do retaliate from the start, they simply won't stop because (we can win why change it)
Oh yeah I still need to do today's daily for free mythril, then back to vector for some sweet VI EXP
The unspoken point I was making was both were situational, but still similar in function.
Reflect has the advantage of lasting much longer than Retaliate does. Like Retaliate, it can avoid counter-effects. Reflect does not need the steep set up requirements to get the most out of it like Retaliate does with Boost/Advance. We can all agree that magic is generally superior to melee without the proper (de)buffs. Nuking mobs we'd like to use it on are also probably going to nuke hard, themselves.
Part of it is me otherwise ribbing at those who fawn over the mage meta. What would you do if Reflect wore when slept or confused like Retaliate does? What if it only lasted 3 rounds, including Carbuncle? Alternative curing methods have already been covered. How about not being able to bounce nukes to the enemy, instead coming back to your ally?
There's been this cyclical hard-on for nerfing it for a while now, usually from the same few. It's not VIT0. It's not a guaranteed "I Win" button. Putting it on a shit character doesn't magically make them a god. Should Reflect work on AoEs? Probably. Let's just not let hatred of a start-up mechanic blind us to similarities of other accepted counters. But as I've said before, if you really want it gone, a number of other concessions need to be made to up fairness in progression for free players.
