What's the best way to level up new characters now that flan is gone?
Unless you're targetting the FFVIII event elites, there really isn't any need to run dungeons purely for the sake of leveling. I ran the Hard exp dungeons the first two weeks of the game, flans for a few days, and now I have almost all but a few of the core characters and Cyan at 50, which means I'm wasting exp on all dungeons now.
Word of caution for anyone doing the elite XIII dungeon with Odin as the last boss; he's got like 70k+ HP and you have to beat the 60s doom timer. If he uses barrier early, you're probably fucked even with multiple 5 star weapons like I had (Damage on Braver went from 9999 to low 7K.) After losing the first time, I beat him with 9s left on timer when he let me have 2-3 rounds of attacks on each char before using barrier after; I also let the previous waves of mobs attack me for a bit and had only Cloud kill them so I could have 2 Bravers available. Depending on your gear and his barrier usage, it might be close enough that even attacks from your healer will make the difference.
I was close-ish on that one too, but only because I brought my team of mid 40s. After seeing how that one went, I figured it was best to switch back to 4/5 of my A team for Odin and it's a good thing I did or I'd have had no chance without the char specific soul breaks or him not putting barrier up at all.
The 4x spider robot in VIII was pretty easy, but I was probably overpowered
The high level ones with adds are decently difficult too (Shiva) and the ones that counter attack multiple times per ability (the blitzball guy and that elephant looking thing in V) if you can't stick blind/para on them. Ones with adds deal damage so quickly even when I'm two-shotting the adds with Trance Fira and Darkness. Damage taken is basically going to be 1 medal no matter what you do and if you toss a death or two into that, you're going to be cutting it close if you missed a medal or two in previous stages since their HP is sometimes high enough to drop you to 2 medals for actions taken. I've had to reset stages a couple times so far; once on Odin, once on blitzball guy, and twice so far on elephant guy. It's nice that there's some more challenge to these though for sure.
Edit: Make that two for elephant guy; https://ffrkstrategy.gamematome.jp/g..._FF%20V_Garula
Seriously fuck the berserk counter when you don't one shot the trash mobs; it basically ruins your run if you can't land Blind quickly enough, which I've yet to land even once.
Karnak Castle will probably be one of the hardest to champion as elite
Got another 5 star (some dumb shield) on my JP account, still no 5 stars at all on my global account. :<
I wonder if my PT of 4Xlv30 + 1lv 50 could do the first stage of Heroic EXP tomorrow and get champion (i doubt it since I don't have MEGA honed abilities)
Even the trash mobs in Karnak suck... Giants can either do next to no damage with Aerora or if they melee someone and it's a crit, they've got one shot capability. Of course you've also got the berserk flute fucks who need to be dropped in a single attack and I'm not even at the boss yet. There's literally no way I'm going to get mastery on this lol.
Here's a question, if I'm on stage 4 now; can I go back and do stage 2 to get more medals and then hop right back to stage 4 or would I need to do 3 again after that? Probably my only chance to mastery is to redo 2 and then do 4 if it'll let me.
You can go to 2 then jump back at 4
That might've just saved me... got lucky and recouped all 3 medals I lost on stage 2, but I've still got a dead Tidus I've been carrying since then so hopefully I can still manage to kill boss at all and preferably before Death Claw lol.
Edit: Wolves just dropped Cloud first attack round z.z
yay 91 stamina time to do more vector before bed Garuda interceptor almost raped my lv 30 PT with that AOE bolt
Funny story on Reddit. I ask tip for the Spider Dollet fight on Elite (before I actually did it)
Most people say, just abuse the Retaliate tech, and I answer i don't want because I find it a cheap way to win.
Then a guy appears and start arguing how Maybe Retaliate is cheap, but asking tips is also cheap
People on the internet ....
Damn dragon isn't coughing up any earth orbs tonight
