I started with the Manasavin Warmech (x2.8) just because all of the options end up frontloading the harder mobs. Decent chance you end up with a double Anima if you do like I did my first time, but if you do then just clear to stage 7 for 11kish and retreat.
Setup was:
Cloud (R2 Thunder Strike/R3 Double Cut) with Buster Sword/Gold Bangle
Cecil (DRK) (R2 Power Break/R3 Double Cut) with Dark Sword/Diamond Helm
Terra (R3 Thundaga/R2 Quake) with Enhancer/Genji Helm
Tidus (R3 Boost/R2 Armor Break) with Diamond Sword/Knight Armor
Vanille (R1 Protectga/R4 Curaga) with Light Staff/Gold Bangle
(Vanille was level 32 with 10.8K until next level; everyone else was 50.)
Basic strategy stuff:
Starting with Manasavin Warmech ends up with these as your path options:
2.8 → 2.2 → 1.4 → 1.5 → 3.3 → 1.5 → 1.8 → 3.3 (38,082) *
2.8 → 2.2 → 1.4 → 2.2 → 1.5 → 1.5 → 1.5 → 3.3 (21,157)
2.8 → 2.2 → 1.4 → 3.3 → 1.5 → 1.5 → 1.5 → 3.3 (31,720) *
2.8 → 2.8 → 1.4 → 2.2 → 1.5 → 1.5 → 1.5 → 3.3 (26,909)
2.8 → 2.8 → 1.4 → 2.2 → 1.8 → 1.5 → 1.5 → 3.3 (32,294)
You won't be able to clear the asterisk'd ones without a mythril use most likely so I'd just go to stage 7 and retreat if you end up on one of those paths, you'll still get a solid amount of memories. You'll also probably need to restart the fight (without losing the stamina) a decent amount depending on mob RNG to make sure you don't get hammered with damage. Examples: Thundara on the 1.4x mob, Wave Cannon spam.
Individual fights:
You'll only encounter 3 hard mobs and you have 2 uses of Protectga to use between them and you only want to use 2/4 Power Breaks so that you have 2 left for Anima. The behemoth absolutely needs Protectga so I'd use a Power Break only on the first fight (Manasavin Warmech) in case you end up with 2 Behemoths so that you'll be able to Protectga both of them and then apply an additional Power Break on one of them. For the hard mobs (2.2x, 2.8x), I'd use 2 thunder abilities per fight. I'd always use Boost on Cloud before using Thunder Strikes (Used 1 Thunder Strike/1 Thundaga on the first 2 hard mob fights and then my final 2 Thunder Strikes on my 3rd (and final hard mob instead of my 3rd Thundaga just to be able to bring 4 Thundagas to Anima.) The rest of would be regular attacks and sometimes an additional Double Cut from Cloud (I had 4 left going into Anima), although you can probably use an Armor Break or 2 where you see fit as well. Quake will one shot the trash mobs (except the 1.8x guy where you will lose at least 1 medal) so use those fights to take a swing or 2 (depending on where the ATB gauge starts) and toss a Curaga and then finish them with Quake. You could also just attack them down if you wanted and take something other than Quake (or use Firaga for the 1.8x one since your only shot at saving all 3 medals for action taken is hitting him with 2 heavy fire attacks). Anima is pretty straight forward. Make sure protectga is the first action you get off and preferably without him hitting you too hard. I used what AoE damage I had to almost kill both arms and then attacked one to finish it off. After that, I spaced out 2 power breaks, reapplied protectga after the 2nd power break, and just kept hammering Anima.
Now, changes that could be made for lesser gear:
First off, you could use someone else instead of Tidus but they need to be able to use Boost at least. On Anima, with my setup, I spent 3 turns on Tidus boosting the other DD and then finally getting to Armor Break on Anima. However, as I said, if you only have 1 good DD weapon, you'll probably need to use the retaliate tactic, but it's probably possible without that too, but you might lose too many medals for mastery because of actions taken. Alternatively, if you have abilities more honed than mine so that you can afford to use some more abilities on the other mobs, it's even more do-able sans Retaliate. I still had 2 Boosts, 2 Armor Breaks, 2 Double Cuts on Cecil, a few Curagas and 2 Bravers/1 Trance Fira/1 Darkness left over when I killed Anima so there's certainly a lot more wiggle room with ability usage.
