SATA question
Computer froze(typing this on an old computer.) and restarted it's self and after the Dell logo start up when it came back it was just a black screen . Just black with that flashing white input line or what ever it is called.
After getting it to restart a warning came up that the HD is damaged and needs replaced.
It was a:
Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB 32MB SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" internal
When replacing a HD, does the SATA have the be the same?

SATA is backwards compatible, any SATA drive you get will be fine
I would pop the drive in another computer though to confirm its not the mobo

I will and thanks for the fast response.

I have seen this a lot on Dell computers and it's typically not the drive. It's more often the SATA controller. Especially if the computer is from 2002 to 2008. Dell used a lot of really cheap capacitors during that period.

I would venture to believe Dell Still and has Always used cheap materials. I've opened countless Dell PC's and the majority of the time I can hardly recognize the MB Brand without using Google.

dell recently switched back to a private company and the quality has gone up tremendously. not saying they are better than building your own of course but if you need a solid machine you can give to grandma that has a warranty, its not a bad choice if you tweak it a little yourself
