Admittedly it's been a few years since I've had to drive on snowy roads, but isn't it the most basic of ideas not to go fast enough that you wouldn't be able to stop safely without sliding for anything outside of your immediate visibility? Like, the fact that truck hit the car, and then still plowed through 3 front yards, bounced off a tree, and still kept going a little bit means he was going way, WAY too fast. A few more cones wouldn't have solved that.

The truck was on the other side of a hill. Nobody could see the truck obstructing the road until it was almost too late to slow down. Yes, people probably should have been driving slower, but I guarantee they would have been driving much slower on the other side of the hill if they had warning that there was on obstruction on the other side, which is what the guy filming was trying to explain to the Comcast dudes.

But, again, the most basic concept of not driving like an asshole is if you can't see something, assume there's something there and be prepared to avoid it. Even in fair weather it's pretty common practice to slow down as you crest a hill that you can't see past. I experience this every day coming back from work, where my freeway exit dips down, pops back up over a hill, and goes back down to a stoplight. You have no idea how far the stoplight is backed up and the speed limit on the exit is 45. I have a hard time saying the Comcast truck caused the accident so much as the Comcast truck claimed all the available assholery of that stretch of road so anyone else wanting to be an asshole was forced off the road.

I do this kind of work( not in a rural area like that) and also work for a competitor of comcast.

I agree with comcast worker. for multiple reasons.

If there is snow and ice on the ground and you know you are going up and down hills. You should not be going that fast. You have to be a completely asshole and moron to continue to drive at the speed limit when there is snow and ice on the ground.
I cant say what the OSHA requirements are where he lives or the company policy, he might be required to puts cones a little further but he might have been correct. But If I am working out there in those conditions. I want my truck right where he had it blocking traffic from hitting me. Rather them hit the truck than me.
I wouldnt pull my truck in that ditch with that snow and ice. You'd need to get towed out and probably written up and suspended
If people REALLY need to know they shouldnt be driving fast there should be a sign placed there by the local government to slow down.

And lets say comcast truck wasnt there and that person that got hit slowed down to pull into one of those driveways. He still would have gotten hit by the moron going to fast.
