I learned today that LGBT find the word "homosexual" to be an extreme insult, but that "gay" was ok.

I sure hope the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender community finds "gay" acceptable.
And, shit's situational. Can't take any term out of context and globally apply whether it's acceptable or not. I know people in the community who toss 'fag' around casually, but know another who doesn't want to hear it from anybody.
