There's a level 52 quest in the Foundation that does that once you've been to the Dravanian Forelands, or the MSQs take you to Tailwind or whatever the Aetheryte settlement there is called.
Also gets you like Pilot Goggles head barding for your Chocobo.

Ohh that's great, it's annoying when you want to fight with your choco and need to desummon it to fly

My bird is at 9731 HP at lvl 53, which is just over 600 HP gained per level. At this rate is should be right around the 14k mark when I hit 60. That should keep it going for a good long time in open world content without it getting flattened by the first aoe sent its way.

Also Gambler Barding body = best barding for flying company chocobos.

Can you rank your bird past 20 yet?

There were no patch notes about chocobo rank cap being raised, nor are there any new abilities to spend more rank points on. I'm guessing it's a 3.1 thing.

Did chocos always take reduces AoE damage or is that new, it's been so long since I used it for anything.

I think that's new. We took on Lord of the Wyverns (?) with 4 people + 4 birds and one bird was standing directly behind him and eating every tail swipe. This bird never dropped below 75% HP and was able to cure itself and the tank.

Choco Bird health fucking shot up with this Xpac. They're beefy as hell now. I love it; reliable partners out there when fate-grinding.

I planned to abuse mine during dps fate grinding, has anyone with r20 used the onion we got from quests on em? I am scared to waste mine

If the cap was raised it would have been mentioned in the patch notes I think.

Yeah nothing about it being lifted. Pretty annoying since the bird is much more useful in the new zones.

Increasing rank doesn't increase the choco's stats directly.

Just wasted XP once rank 20. Cuts player XP down but nothing for the bird.
