Before I start this wall o' text I need to clarify that I 100% believe the Tallahassee PD fucked up the rape investigation greatly, (though due to their incompetence more than any football favoritism, just go google Rachel Hoffman or Christina West for recent examples), and I also 100% believe Jameis Winston did not rape this girl. Not because I am a fanboy. (In this VERY thread and last year's version you'll find me cracking on Winston for crabgate and this recent outburst) I believe he is innocent because of the evidence.
Plow, I'm not sure why you put "state attorney" in quotations like that, implying I am making it up or choosing a good ol' boy source or whatever, but I was referencing state attorney Willie Meggs, who is the same person you bolded and underlined so much in that NYT piece you posted.
And speaking of that NYT hit piece, please also be aware of the information it deliberately left out. Allow me to retort with http://www.tomahawknation.com/2014/4...-florida-state
There is also the full incident report which you can read at your leisure, because I'm sure you haven't. It's around 86 pages long. http://media.graytvinc.com/documents...+Case+File.pdf've read through the article this morning and am surprised, given the amount of hype that the article was receiving around town, that it contains no new bombshell facts or allegations about the investigation. There are some new facts about some peripheral issues and the Tallahassee Police Department's handling of unrelated cases. It's well done, and long, but from an author who has received multiple Pulitzer Prizes, I was expecting more fruits from his investigative journalism. It is almost exclusively a rehash of facts with comments from interested parties connected to the accuser.
The most interesting detail I could find was that a different woman sought counseling after a sexual encounter with Jameis Winston, but did not call the event a rape, and she did not say "no."
"A month before the rape accusation became public, the university’s victim advocate learned that a second woman had sought counseling after a sexual encounter with Mr. Winston, according to the prosecutor’s office. The woman did not call it rape — she did not say "no." But the encounter, not previously reported, "was of such a nature that she felt violated or felt that she needed to seek some type of counseling for her emotions about the experience," according to Georgia Cappleman, the chief assistant state attorney, who said she had spoken with the advocate but not with the woman."
Though that account and opinion is third- or fourth-hand, at best, it is concerning and potentially damaging to Winston's reputation.
This piece will get the New York Times a lot of clicks from people who have not followed the case, and reading it without context, including:
statements from the school, from Winston's previous legal team, from the police;
that the accuser gave several different, inconsistent accounts in multiple interviews with police;
That Greg Dent, a player of more notoriety at the time of his alleged incident than Winston was at the time of his, was arrested and is being tried for rape without any suggestion of police impropriety or favoritism;
that a second semen sample was also found;
that the accuser cut off contact with and declined to cooperate with police (USA Today, November 27) ;
that her blood sample was tested three times for drugs, including once by an FBI lab, and none were found,
That Travis Johnson, referenced but not by name in the final paragraphs, was acquitted in 30 minutes by an all-female jury in a case many believe should never have been prosecuted, etc.,
certainly paints an even uglier picture than what already hangs on the wall of public opinion. I encourage you to read it, however, because you may not have followed the investigation as closely as I have, since my job is covering Florida State.
The entity that comes out with the most egg on its face is certainly the TPD, as the author discusses some of their work in other cases. For FSU and Winston, the hit is one of image and reputation, and apparently nothing more, unless the NYT has something it is holding back for a later piece.
Others who have closely followed or covered the case are singing a similar tune, including the Sports Editor of the Tallahassee Democrat:
It's OK to believe TPD and FSU should have done more, and to also say that @nytimes piece was not great journalism. Not mutually exclusive.

Main problems with the Times piece are that 95 percent of it is rehash: Willie Meggs has been ripping the TPD investigation from day one.

So that's not much of a revelation. Other issue is not mentioning Greg Dent, using Travis Johnson case as example of football ruling all ...

Read the winston piece in NYT. Very comprehensive but not a ton of new info.

The woman's story was too inconsistent. Drug tests (three different ones, actually!) revealed no drugs in her system. BAC test showed 0.048. She had semen from another man, later determined to be her "boyfriend", also a football player from Kent State who was visiting. She stopped communicating and cooperating with investigators. This is all he-said, she-said.
Keep in mind this is all MONTHS before Winston ever takes a snap at FSU. He is a nobody at this point. Then, veeeeeeeeeeery conveniently, the week Stanford upsets Oregon, bringing Jameis to the forefront of the Heisman and FSU to the #2 ranking nationally, this becomes relevant again.
Jameis hit-it-and-quit-it with this girl, and was probably (most definitely) an asshole about it. She was made to look dumb in front of his friends (who, by the way, have sworn affidavits stating that everything they saw was consensual, and whether you choose to believe them or not the penalty for lying on affidavits is damn significant). And she probably didn't enjoy that at all.
The evidence of rape wasn't there. Her story was inconsistent. Witnesses against her. Toxicology reports say she wasn't drugged or drunk. She broke off communications with investigators and only resumed after Winston becomes a national name. This is why I don't believe Winston raped her, and no prosecutor would be able to get a conviction based on the findings. I, too, wish Tallahassee PD had not fucked this up initially, but in the hands of the State Attorney's office there was nothing that could be used to charge Winston.
Now that brings us back to present day. It was STUPID for Winston, or anyone who has been accused of a sexual crime, to publicly yell FUCK HER IN THE PUSSY even in a joking manner. He deserved to be suspended for the dumb move and bringing negative spotlight to the university. But some people don't think that's enough and want him gone forever, because in the eyes of many, he is a man who got away with rape...even though the evidence and testimony of witnesses doesn't support it.
I'm glad you really, really, really, really hate rapists, Plow. I'd say most people also hate rapists. But Jameis ain't no rapist.
P.S. Amari Cooper terrifies me.![]()
Still stick by the statement that the writer of that blog piece/article is dumb as hell.
Seeing some #PrayersForBama on twitter right now. Dudes in Tuscaloosa..what's going on? I see threats of a shooting or something? the hell D:
Ok, so.
Let's pretend for a moment that an fsu grad with ZERO journalism education who started an fsu football website blogging on said website is remotely a reasonable response to refute an investigative journalist that won his first of 3 Pulitzer prizes 30 years ago.
That's fucking retarded, but anyway.
He's literally just going "nuh-uh."
His claims are nothing but the stuff Bogdanich was already refuting throughout that article. He straight up links an article Bogdanich was specifically referring to in his refutation of the police claims, an article which was also directly responded to by the prosecuting attorney as being full of shit.
And he's just posting it to counter... the argument that it and articles like it were false and intentionally misleading on the police's behalf.
Further, he's using the police's horrible reaction as some kind of defense to Winston; their refusal to do any meaningful investigation whatsoever is portrayed as evidence that the accuser wasn't trying to get it investigated, when everybody except the people that look bad if she was... agree that she was.
Best of all, he's using these claims while not acknowledging the fact that the cop who was in charge of the non-investigation was also a private security guard... for the fucking FSU booster organization that finances the majority of the football program.
You wanna know what has to go left unsaid because of lawering? Dude knew exactly who the fuck she was talking about (your horse shit about jameis not being well known is retarded, everybody big on football in tallahassee knew exactly who he was before he even got there for his redshirt year) the department having dealt with them for shooting a bunch of apartment windows out with bb guns just a week before that.
Your fucking thoughtless accusations of her breaking off communication and then picking it up again when he's more famous are directly refuted by the fact that it wasn't her that brought it back into the public eye.
The fucking cops and university brushed it under the rug, refused to investigate shit, and ONLY after he became famous, and media outlets started asking the police what was up with this disappearing rape case, did it become a big deal or get any meaningful investigation whatsoever. The accuser had nothing to do with finally bring it into the public eye.
Your, and his, entire argument is the shithead argument of "GOTTA DEFEND THESE GREAT MEN FROM ALL THESE FALSE RAPE ACCUSATIONS THAT WILL TOTALLY BENEFIT THE ACCUSER IN ANY WAY" when they would absolutely not. You know the precise bac content of the victim, the toxicology results for date rape drug testing, etc. ... and yet the police never bothered to even try to figure out who the attacker was when multiple significant pieces of evidence were extremely easy to find and readily available immediately.
It was bad enough you attempting to refute him with that ridiculous blog, and then... everything you said of your own thoughts is the trash terrible people say to try to make up excuses to defend people they like when they know they committed horrible crimes. Pretty much every cliche about legitimate rape is contained in your post.
You're 100% supporting the idea of investigating exclusively the accuser and taking the accused entirely at his lawyer's word, and dismissing all evidence against them through whatever you can make up in your mind to convince you he's innocent.
That makes you a terrible person.
I already wrote one wall of text and I'm not getting roped into a Plow-off, I guess I'm just a terrible person and it's time for me to accept it!
I meant to post this but forgot. This is just.. man.. It looks like they caught him the first time. He deserves some kind of suspension for that.
yeah dude's a fucking piece of shit. I only saw it once each time and thought they were accidental but that's obvious
i feel bad for that tn backup qb...he is getting killed on every play
rutgers goes 4-0 in nonconference play
now to go 0-8 in the big ten
RUTGERS
upset alert: FSU down to NC State 24-7 (and the NC State QB just made a ridiculous play, should be on Sportscenter)
Jameis driving though.
I got home and was switching games and saw that touchdown. O_O NC State has beaten FSU before.
*21-24, i think you mean
