So this doesn't really have that much to do with this thread but I'm in Hong Kong atm on business and there's been some huge peaceful protests going on. Police took a page from Murrica's handbook and brought out police in full riot gear complete with pepper spray and tear gas to try and disperse the crowds, which backfired completely and only served to bring out even more people. I saw bits and pieces of this from my hotel in Mong Kok so it was pretty surreal and instantly reminded me of home.

Sometimes I wonder if the world has just gone insane. Lots of articles if you want to read up on it via Google, don't want to derail thread.

Aren't the police in China some of the most notorious police forces in the world? I do seem to recall that most citizens consider the police to be huge government oppressors.

If that's the case, why would that surprise you that they did this? China also condemned the U.S. about the whole Ferguson incident (along with Russia coincidentally), but now, they're just as bad.

Hong Kong doesn't exactly have the same police culture as the rest of China. That is, partially, what the protests are about (it is actually about political control of the democratic process in Hong Kong, but China is essentially trying to impose its political will on Hong Kong).

Keep on a lookout for @ShaunKing's rebuttal today on recent allegations that he has been conning people out of donations for his own separate Ferguson org. and past organizations from Haiti and Newtown. At first I thought it was bullshit because some random lady, who had no clue what Storify was, made it out to appear like he was charging for his "articles" to be published, but everyone knows he hasn't written any articles and obviously Storify isn't.

He has deleted all evidence of his conversation with this woman @PoliticsPeach, so that is not a good sign. Want to hope he's not just another opportunist, given his good work at relaying information and putting the crime altogether, but if it is true, there will be another to take his place.

Also, there are now at least 7 livestreamers now, one of them @bassem_masari was part of 7 or 8 people that got released from jail last night and police attempted to use as pawns for "negotiation" with the clergy. Bassem had all his clothes, an iPad, and other shit stolen because the police left his car unlocked when they snatched him up. I can't wait to see the ramifications of using people has hostages to negotiate with the protestors lol

Yeah, HK's police force is generally pretty chill and enjoys(ed) a good relationship with the general populace, which is why the sudden escalation was so surprising to me. I mean, these guys didn't destroy anything (including abandoned police vehicles) even after getting tear gassed when I fully expected them to go apeshit.

Uploaded a few pics that I took here (tried to use imgur, couldn't upload for some reason:

Was following it on reddit. The police channels indicate the protesters were funneled through a blockaid that wasn't designed for such a massive crowd, which started a fight with the police and the protesters on the outskirts. The skirmish then broke in to a larger fight when riot control failed to contain the swell of people.

Bad management, bad control of the situation, and bad tactics.

ACLU challenging the "5 second rule" today in court. https://twitter.com/Nettaaaaaaaa testifying on the frontlines and the attorney representing the PD tried to get smart and call her by someone else's (first) name, she corrected him with her first and last name, he addresses her again, only using her first name and smiles, judge then laid down the law.

Another night of standoffs in Ferguson. Protesters lined up in the street, police looking to advance and make arrests. Stream below.

The Oakland streamer, Bella Eiko is a soldier, too bad she has to leave to go back home. Tonight it was witnessed on her stream that CNN was teaming-up with the Ferguson PD to lie about a gun being pointed from within the protestors at the police, after gunshot was heard away from the crowd, in one of the back streets.

Many believe that the person who fired the gun either was a cop or was working with the cops as they demonstrated a delayed, slow reaction when they were lined-up, just feet away from the line of protestors linked arms in the street. They merely back peddled, still exposed to the street, if they were at all afraid of being in sight of any one that could have been shooting at them.

Because CNN was so quick to point to the crowd and try to make the police rush them, it is without saying that without these streamers, the picture wouldn't be so blatantly clear. I look forward to the news of this event circulating later today and I hope they get some visitors at their HQ protesting again.

On that note, the streamers bringing you uncensored footage are needing help, there is a donation page setup to help them out:

This supports Argus News' streamer Rebelutionary Z: https://t.co/9aqK0BrbYX
Here is Bassem's fund (the one who lost all his belongings in his car): http://t.co/jyvSzkM5Wu

Also, Capt Johnson came out spoke with the frontline after the PD was about to make arrests for those linked-up in the street, spoke with the youth determined to stand their ground, and told them that they will not be enforcing that bogus "5 second" rule.

In the end, the protestors stood, the only person that was arrested, and released after Capt came out, was a clergy man who was praying when the police line moved forward towards the protestors. Hearing the voices of these young women @MusicOverPeople @brownblaze @bdoulaoblongata who stood their ground tonight was raw, you could hear them give everything they had, from deep down inside. Not just being "rebellious" or any of that superficial shit.

Agent Provocateurs have been used in the past, not so far-fetched to believe they tried some shit last night. If you go look at the Oakland streamer's archive and look for the moment the police line advanced, you'll see the lack of response or emotion from the police, followed by CNN's finger-pointing at the crowd, trying to sick the police on them. They know they didn't have shit, cameras were on, clergy were present, and CNN was caught in a bold-face lie. Period.

I think the CNN thing was a misunderstanding. People saw

    https://twitter.com/cnnbrk/status/516762364805668864

posted last night and initially thought it was referencing what was going on at the time.

As far as the paranoia about informants and planted agitators, a good number of protesters who've been out there regularly are very distrustful of the police after a number of recent incidents. In particular, the night last week where Chief Jackson started to march with the protesters and then almost immediately a group of police barreled into the crowd and started arresting some people, claiming that protesters were attacking the chief, generated a lot of anger and feelings of betrayal. That was followed by the night of the alleged police shooting where there was massive tension. Some people heard "target is down" over the police scanner which led to rumors that the police had shot another innocent person. Given how little information is still known about that incident and why there was no announcement of an active shooter situation / manhunt / lockdown, the distrust of the police just creates a situation where unconfirmed rumors can run rampant and an aggressive police stance (at least among some factions of the local police there) stoke the kind of paranoia that you're seeing.

In general, the main group of protesters who are out there regularly do not want agitators and provocateurs and will actively work to isolate those that do act out. Last night a lot of protesters thought that there was a guy in the protest crowd who was actually helping to pick out protesters for the police to arrest by pointing them out. Many feel like there are elements of the police who want to be able to crack down hard and are looking for a pretext to do so (e.g. all of a sudden police want to enforce a noise ordinance after no such thing being mentioned in the past month and a half).

Again, I think the biggest problem has been that there has been minimal effort to try and begin rebuilding some level of trust with the people out there. Instead, people feel like the police are just practicing / gearing up for a "no indictment" announcement. Seeing some police wearing "I am Darren Wilson" bracelets also made people feel like the police had already taken sides in what is supposed to be an ongoing investigation.

Well said, my friend. The Ferguson PD not only makes minimal effort to gain any trust with the protestors, many of the officers have no issue with laughing, mocking, or making aggressive gestures to the crowd or the media. This can be witnessed every single night the protestors show up outside the station and it furthers the point that the community will more than likely never see justice until they have all been replaced, along with everyone involved in the attempted cover-up of Darren Wilson's crime, including that coward Gov. Nixon sitting somewhere in Afghanistan right now.

This is why. Conspiracy theories and people taking shit to the extreme is breeding this. Hundreds of protesters, cameras everywhere, police everywhere, and no one saw the shooter and put together that the shooter may be a police sympathizer? Please.

That's just my opinion, if you don't think this police department is capable of shady shit to get the crowd to disperse (like firing rounds in the sky), then that's cool for you. It's not like me believing some cops in the force could do some dumb shit, which has a low probability of ever being caught, changes the level of corruption and lawlessness they have already demonstrated anyways.

I'm glad you think Agent Provocateurs are an extreme conspiracy theory, though.
