Raising awareness about an issue necessarily requires people to pay attention, which requires controversy, which requires ambiguity. There's nothing especially ambiguous about this so no1curr. Now, if one of those people had the audacity to rob a store before getting shot, send in the leggy blondes and cameras.

Was Mike Brown a thug? Was Darren Wilson in the KKK? These aren't relevant to the case but the ability to create storylines like this is the only reason it made it to TV in the first place.

The idea that "both sides are bad" is laughable, since what "both sides" desire is not the same and should not be given the same credence. If we want to buy into the notion of dichotomy, then there are the forces for change want justice and accountability, whereas the status quo wants to remain just that.

But even then, at the end of the day, there is no "both sides" or "us vs them" or shit that tries to divide people and compartmentalize and trivialize the bullshit. There is only ever "us". And it's been pretty apparent that the status quo bristles at this concept.
Ahh, I understand you much more clearly now. I did go off into a tangent on how fluff and nonsense is created to distract, but it does add to the overarching problem at hand. The idea that "both sides is bad" is indeed laughable, but that doesn't ignore the fact that there are still a few bad eggs on both sides of the table (just going back to the Martin Luther King example above). It's all about perception, I guess -- people see one bad thing happen on either side, and blanket everything and everyone thereafter as "bad". Status quo has been maintained through this very faulty reasoning for years. "Why vie for change when a seemingly fallible group of people seem uninterested or even self-destructive?"

You also realized that there is just "us" just as soon as I did too. It still shocks me to no end how hateful people can be for no reason, allowing said hate to maintain the status quo and keep anything from changing.

I've been for years trying to stress education so as to ignore the controversy -> ambiguity steps needed to raise awareness on subjects of importance. Usually proper education leads people to try and come to their own conclusions about life around them, therefore leading people to do their own research before even waiting for media coverage of the "next big tragedy or topic" to discuss about. This also helps people avoid feeling angry & offended as soon as controversy hits and the people they identify with are cast in a negative light. Not that one can't be angry or offended, but more often than not, anger clouds most people's better judgement and actions.

Media really strikes gold with every new tragedy.

Former @SLMPD cop who said Americans are "Ni&&er Lovers" now works for "Riot King" Sgt. Rossomanno at 0311 Tactical. The PO responsible for sending those emails was fired by @SLMPD & essentially hired back as an independent consultant, teaching tactical.

State Rep. Mike Kelley "shoots" a "prostitute," played by St. Louis police officer Erin Becherer during a police training scenario on Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, at the St. Louis Sheet Metal Training Center in St. Louis, while trainer Brian Rossomanno watches. Becherer had just "stabbed" Kelley, R-Lamar, in the scenario. Local politicians were asked to go through the same type of training that police officers receive so that they could get a feel for police work and the risks officers face every day. Rossomanno is a St. Louis police officer and part owner of 0311 Tactical Solutions.

Sgt Rossomanno's company 0311 Tactical also employs Lt. Deeba of @SLMPD who ended the career of a whistle blower cop.

I'mma quote my man Tef Poe on this, but the leaders of Ferguson have collectively given Oprah the middle-finger for being a non-entity and criticizing the movement for lack of leadership, while contributing nada herself. I mean, the only ones really upset are those who just realized Oprah isn't a leader in anything unrelated to capitalism. But, yeah, Tef Poe got this:

]Oprah said she's looking for ppl to stand up and say what we want ... She said she needs leadership to come out of this with demands ummmm we went all the way across an entire ocean to talk to the U.S. Govt via the United Nations in Geneva and told these assholes precisely what we want .. the demands have been posted since week 2 ---- Get onboard or get out the way!![/QUOTE]

Mike Rowe doing his very best "concerned white lady" impression, in reply to a fan letter written to him about the protests:
To answer your question Meghan, I support peaceful protests, and I'm all for rooting out bad cops. But let's not stop there. If we're serious about saving lives, and eliminating the confrontations that lead to the demise of Garner and Brown, let's also condemn the stupidity that leads so many Americans to resist arrest.

I don't care if you're white, black, red, periwinkle, burnt umber, or chartreuse -- resisting arrest is not a right, it's a crime. And it's never a good idea.

It's definitely illegal to across the country. There's one exception in Michigan, however, there's very specific criteria for it to be upheld.

This is actually inaccurate but I'm not going to bother to argue with you, we all know how that goes around here.

I'm able to accept it when I'm wrong, and have done so before.

So in reality, my point stands.

I've always said I can resist arrest until they attempt to cuff me, then I'm done. They can tell me I'm under arrest but unless they have a charge I don't have to oblige. Once the cuffs go on, it's time to talk to a lawyer.

I'm always amazed how many people should invoke when interviewed but never do. If I were read my rights my first name would be "Lawyer."

Technically, the police are not required to tell you what you're being charged with on scene. After booking, you're supposed to get a quick book sheet telling you what the charges are and you sign off on it.

However, as soon as the contact turns in to an actual stop, or they try to cuff you, silence and "Lawyer" should be the only two things coming out of your mouth.

If they dont tell you what you're being charged with, isnt that an unlawful arrest?

    No.

Does it make it easier to deal with a suspect? Yeah. I like to communicate, so I let people know what I'm doing. It's not a requirement, though. And sadly, that's how a lot of confrontations start.

It's best to not hold court on the roadside. Once a stop turns into detention the likelihood of resistance benefiting you is very slim.

Uh, yes they are. They can't just arrest you without charging you and if they're charging you and you ask if you're being charged they can't just not tell you unless they want to make it worse for themselves.

Now I don't care how it practically works for you guys, but I know my rights.

I won't fight a cop trying to actively arrest me but I'm not required to go somewhere just because a guy in a uniform tells me to.
