Sure, gassing dozens of innocent bystanders is totally worth getting a few guns off the street.

When she saw the Amnesty protesters with their hands up talking to the police in Ferguson, Maddow was saying that it is extremely rare if not the first time ever for Amnesty to be deployed in the USA but she also stated that she did not know for a fact and was saying it while doing her 2nd hr of live Ferguson coverage. So if that is true she wont correct it later like she usually does with fact/data errors. Anyone know?
Eh I looked it up.. yep its the first time.http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/p...e-to-ferguson/In an unusual move, the global rights organization Amnesty International has dispatched a delegation of observers and organizers to Ferguson, Mo., to provide direct support to community members and to observe the police response to protests. The 13-person delegation, which arrived late last week, was the first of its kind deployed by Amnesty within the United States, the organization said.
I don't think its a good thing if they did indeed get kicked out at gunpoint. I saw the middle of the confrontation but not the last part because they moved the camera to another live cam.
Fucking barf. (Apologies if this was already posted. I did look first, but didn't see it.)
Autopsy Doctor Speculates Marijuana Could Have Made Michael Brown Act ‘Crazy’
well that's just stupid, and i didn't even have to read the article to know that shit. title-as-link was enough.
This seems like an escalation problem. A kid got shot and killed. That shouldn't have happened. Now, however, we have people rioting. That shouldn't happen either. So the police are upping the ante and using rubber bullets and tear gas. Now the rioters are shooting back.
A video that got posted in the youtube thread sums it up perfectly. This lady says that the kids out there protesting feel like they are at war. They don't trust the police so much that they would rather fight and get killed than stop what they are doing. Pardon my french, but these kids are fucking retarded.
No one knows what the fuck is going on and everyone thinks everyone else is the enemy. Everyone needs to sit down, shut up, and calm the fuck down before the entire town burns to the ground.
This whole thing is a clusterfuck.

Students at a Compton school will be facing some changes as the new school year starts next Monday: the campus' police officers will now be allowed to keep semi-automatic AR-15 rifles in the trunks of their patrol cars while they're working.
Love how people are comparing this response to other countries, where they kill you for protesting the government or cut your hands off. Yay.
Now that I think about it, these riots are probably a great way for police to justify getting even more military grade hardware. A few decades ago cops didn't have anything more than their sidearm and possibly a rifle in the back of their trunk.
Really impressively terrible crisis management.
So both sides literally can't even, and one side has military grade equipment. How done do you have to be before can't evening more literally.
I normally appreciate your insightful commentary and willingness to be patient and thorough in discussions on these forums, yet I found this to be an awfully stupid and racist comment.
I imagine you're vaguely referring to stereotypical cases in places like the Middle East. This doesn't consider that people who are still alive in such countries today remember when their day-to-day lives were more like our own, and only forty or so years ago, at that. It isn't as if they weren't one day wearing western fashion, milling about towns that didn't look too different from our own, going to grade school, college, or their jobs, and leading what were indeed lives not unlike what the average person gets to enjoy in the United States. There are people that aren't much older than you or me who grew up in a lifestyle that would be completely recognizable to us.
Today, they're often exposed to awful things. Depending upon where in the Middle East they live, what they had then could be a mere shadow of a memory now. However, it is entirely stupid to imply that there are no similarities whatsoever. It is also arrogant to presume that terrible things can't befall the United States, even if it's unlikely to ever be on the same scale. Nonetheless, such comparisons and fears are justified.
I can see where Neph is coming from, but marginalizing this situation because other countries (potentially) have it worse isn't a good way to try to cope with it.
