I watched it digitally and I felt really lucky that I got to watch it at all in my podunk town. I enjoyed it immensely. After sitting on my impressions for a couple days I really don't have anything negative to say about it. I had a few good laughs and after waiting so long for another Tarantino movie I appreciated the length. I've been meaning to watch it a second time and i'm sure i'll enjoy it just as much but I don't think that it has many more viewings before I get bored of it.

It was all a lie to kill him in self-defense, thus legally. That convo between the hangman and Samuel makes it clear he [Samuel's char] never takes prisoners alive, ever. "That's one way to get yourself killed." Also, during the sequence you see Samuel's character wearing the same clothes, not only that but same age as well. It was all in the old man's mind. Samuel's character was a 'great liar.'

That's how I understood it too. Was some epic level trolling.

The old man's visions of it didn't help the case at all LOL. Such a great movie

I was the only white dude in the theater when I saw it last week. The Korean subtitles spell Mary Todd's first name as 메리 [mɛɾi], so as people filed out I had a couple people ask me, "Who is Merry Todd?"

Just watched. Felt it dragged. Thankfully Sam Jackson was his normal awesome self. Would not watch again.

recently saw it for the first time too, lackluster fare. nice aesthetic, fine cinematography and score and acting, but thematically meaningless. an empty film
