While some of us have heard that Bungie's servers are having problems, I've just been told that people cannot connect to EA or 2K servers.

Had a customer try to return his brand new Ps4 because it couldn't get to the network. I told him most likely due to the hack. He proudly said it wasn't.

Told him he is SoL and since its opened we won't take it back and he will need to contact Sony. He said , well thanks for no help.

I said to him, 'I did help you, told you the most likely cause and you refused to listen."

Wait, you don't accept hardware returns because its been opened? What if there was actually something wrong with the PS4?

Military exchanges won't take returns if the box has been opened, and it's somewhat common in places that might sell electronics but aren't tech focused stores.

Explains why it was taking ten days to load anything early this morning. I did wonder to myself if something was going on but then I thought, "who the hell would go after a website like Crunchyroll?"

Most retail places don't on principle, but defective stuff can get swapped for the same thing. I know that's how Gamestop operated, anyway. Defective meaning "This won't even boot" not "It won't connect to PSN and I know it's not the DDOS thing." I trust Vagus is familiar enough with the console to have sussed out that it was PEBCAC and not anything else.

Well, I know Best Buy, Target and Walmart will all take opened consoles without a defect so definitely not "most" retail places.

The customer just called and demanded he get a new Ps4. I asked him if he contacted Sony. He said no. The policy at our store is that once its open, it's up to the manufacturer to deal with it. With such an expensive item as a ps4, I wouldn't do the customer service thing and give him a new one. If it was a set of 9.99 headphones, sure.

The problem was he couldn't update his Ps4. I asked him if a game would load ad he said yes. I told him its likely due to the hack of the PSN and just wait it out. And if he still had issues, to contact Sony. He didn't want to listen or take my advice.

There is assumption that the customer is always right. Can try, but you may face a wall.

I've had people try to return an Xbox, box was to shit. Like the guy used it as an umbrella. No receipt either. Had people attempt to return a wii u with a rock in it. Said he forgot about the wii. Idiots!

The target I used to work at, the returns department accepted a ps3 box that was filled with rocks instead of the console. And of course the system was originally purchased with cash so no way to look at a transaction history and attach a name to the box of rocks.

Moral of the story: return your boxes of rocks to target, they prolly wont even look in the box hah.

They will. Of course the condition has to remain "like new", with receipt and not filled with rocks, though lol.

    http://www.theguardian.com/technolog...14-cyber-fraud
A 22-year-old man arrested by police investigating cyber-fraud offences in 2013-14 has been linked to the Lizard Squad hacking group thought to be behind the attacks on Sony’s PlayStation Network and Microsoft’s Xbox Live gaming services over Christmas.

The unnamed man from Twickenham was arrested in a raid on his home by the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU) before being released on bail.

“The arrest is in connection with an ongoing investigation into cyber-fraud offences which took place between 2013 and August 2014 during which victims reported funds being stolen from their PayPal accounts,” Thames Valley police said in a statement on behalf of SEROCU.

Independent security researcher Brian Krebs claimed the arrested man was Vinnie Omari, posting what appeared to be a copy of Omari’s bail notice after having alleged that the 22-year-old was part of the Lizard Squad hacking group.

“Sources tell KrebsOnSecurity that Vinnie is one of many individuals associated with this sad little club who are being rounded up and questioned,” said Krebs in a blog post.

When I worked in the target store we had a guy who would take out the 250 gig hdd of the xbox360's and return just the system. After they caught on they would always call me or someone else with a gaming background to inspect all returned systems. Guy did it like 6 times according to AP. People always leave out contollers and games in bundles expecting us not to check. Had to get on to n the girls who never looked into them.

Since access to PlayStation Network was impacted during the holidays, we wanted to show our appreciation for your patience by offering all PlayStation Plus members that had an active membership or free trial on December 25th a membership extension of five days.
