Is anyone actually owed anything? At most, the only thing technically owed is the extra time added for when the service was down, and even that is questionable and probably not required because of terms and conditions. BUT, it is not unreasonable to expect compensation. The amount of negativity caused by people who had PS4s not being able to play over holidays, and the people getting PS4s for the holidays and being unable to use them, is a not insignificant black mark against Sony. A more generous offer of compensation, which wouldn't have necessarily cost them much, would go a long way in saying "we realize your frustration and are sorry you had to deal with this" and restore goodwill and confidence in the product. SSo when people are upset by the rather meager offering here it's not "I'm entitled to more, waaaah" it's "really? you're not even gonna actually try to make it up to us/appear sorry?"

Yes sony's shit at preventing massive server attacks and recovering from it especially when most of their workers are on holiday because you know they are people too and not slaves. You are a entitled brat if you want 1 month free online and 100$ free games when they are already giving 5 days extended plus membership and a 10% cart discount compensation because you couldn't play online or patch for 3 days.

That i agree but what i'm saying is If they wanna give the 5 days, they should exetent to first of january, because alot of consoles need a day 1 update to run

So those couldn't even play EVEN if thye didn't want to play online, because the console required a day 1 update before they could play (something they couldn't do)

I personally don't give a shit that PSN was down, I play most of my games offline and my consoles were setup already.

Difference is MS was only down about a day. PSN was down four days, and for some that was really their only game time. I think the 5 days of PSN + is fine, but I also do agree that it should be extended to those who signed up before January first as the people who got hit hardest by this were the ones who got the console as a christmas gift.

Also Deader, just because most people here are tech savvy and have 8-16gb USB sticks laying around that we can quickly format and use for the update, doesn't mean Jane and John Doe have one lying around to update the brand new PS4 they just got little Johnny.

I'm just in a bit of shock that people are bitching and calling people entitled when people say that the compensation that's offered does zero for those most inconvenienced by the outage. But then again, this is BG where people have to bitch for the sake of bitching, even when it's unwarranted.
