PS3 might be different, haven't tried it today, but "Cannot start the application. Cannot connect to the server to verify the license" is what everyone trying to play something digital on PS4 is getting right now.

Dunno brah i played Diablo III (digital) alot today Solo is boring tho

They never once said that digital games would be DRM free iirc. Retail disc based is all they promised.

A user not being able to access a digital game he legitimately purchased while PSN is down is a new restriction.

Online-check DRM on digital games was optional on PS3, so I assume it's the same case with the PS4.

It's not like I'm making it up. Whatever the restriction is, a lot of people can't play offline, digital games while PSN is down for whatever reason.

Hm I wonder? I was playing Sword Art Online (a digital vita game I purchased, in fact, for NA, you can only play it digitally) and I didn't have anything that would restrict me from playing. I was also constantly having to restart my system due to trying to save scum so I would not mess up my blacksmithing and also check up on PSN.

The thing that did inconvenience me was trying to transfer a vita save for FFX-2 HD to the cloud to play it on my ps3 which makes sense.

Also the wording for DRM is said in a specific way. SONY will not require it but that doesn't mean that the devs will give the same response. Basically all Sony said at the conference was "we're not changing how things are already are".

No it's because gamefaqs are morons just put your game as offline to play the license error is normal but you can still play it.

My PSN is down and I have the digital version. It's playing just fine. Sounds like your console lost the license information for some reason and now has to verify it before you can play. That sucks, but it's not an issue with the digital version.

Right, but the new license verification process(es) for PS4, regardless of what they are, are new. This results in restrictions on users at times. They can be defended or justified (no one here is, I don't think), but they're still an inconvenience and were completely avoidable in the console development process. All because of shekel-protecting.
