If not youll have to find a hack for your current firmware install sysupdater and update to 9.2 with that

I couldn't say what's best but I have rxtools ATM and works well, just can't update emunand higher then 9.5 on N3DS ( for now)

Well, updated to 10.3 and got homebrew launcher installed. I think I'll hold off on the cfw and downgrading until I figure out what's going on with the 9.5 thing. Plus I'm not sure what I have to redo if I get a new SD card. I had been using some shitty 4GB one that I had lying around at the time I bought it.

I would presume there's a way to manually update to a certain firmware regardless of 10.4 being out. I'm being way too lazy about the whole thing though, still on 10.0.

Just honestly isn't anything on the horizon that interests me for the system. I could go for a new Mario or Donkey Kong platformer though.

Yeah, stay on 10.3 but make sure you manually change your DNS to the Tubehax numbers to prevent any update nag. sysupdater's latest release seems to be super stable, even on n3DS systems. But maybe wait until rxTools 3.0 is officially released to see if you want to take the plunge and downgrade to 9.2, then install CFW to get a 10.3/10.4 emuNAND

Yeah, sysupdater. Which is only available if you can install the Homebrew Channel on your 3DS and have the ability to access the kernel to run sysupdater. Which we won't be able to on 10.4 until exploits are found.

Otherwise, from my understanding, updating firmware on the 3DS is like updating iOS on iPhone and iPad; ie you can only install firmware that is currently being signed by the servers.
