So they say the game isn't profitable due to low subscriber numbers and then start banning lots of people, no warnings and no communication on it just banned outright.

It's almost like they think they will go and play ffxiv if they get banned!

It's important to keep in mind that these same GM teams work on both ffxi and ffxiv and that RMT shouts, botting and many other things are rampant on 14. So this is not about catching cheaters at all.

Actually had the customer service rep tell me that while I couldn't play my mule again I should go over and play on ffxiv... but they couldn't guarantee I wouldn't be banned by association

Sure they could, since the auto jailer is turned off. All SE would have to do is randomly pick X number to manually review or ban, to send a message and also limit the # of customers they lose.

It's clear that for a long period they were ignoring all kinds of cheating, so enforcement of rules does vary

I've already mentioned that it's something run manually and it reviews all the logs for active characters over a period of time, checks those logs against a list of potential RMT indicators and then flags anyone over a certain amount. The next day when the STF staff come in, they review the results of the program and click nuke, the results are a perma ban with a form later being sent to the registered email account. It has absolutely nothing to do with speedhacking or third party tools, it's only looking for RMT related activity or activity that looks like it could be RMT related. Third party tools can assist these things but aren't required. GM reports are a different situation, and multiple people reporting someone for doing stuff generally results in either a temp ban, or if the infraction is serious enough a perma.

There really isn't anymore to it then that. Two different situations that use different standards and results.

Just spoken with an agent and this is what I was told, pretty much banned for spark farming with no tools, I was pulling mobs with bst and killing, again no tools used.

Honestly I think it's either company policy that has been handed down to try get more people to swap or the GM team is showing some favoritism themselves. As mentioned they work on both games.

I know Square are dumb as a fucking brick but even they can't be so stupid to ban people when it's not really needed, at a time when the game is so low on subs. There is something behind it without a shadow of a doubt, the main thing with an mmo player is they are like crack addicts and they know it, if you take away their fix they will need to fill the gap in their lives, especially people with a lot of accounts. You can say tinfoil hat but in total honesty it would be crazy to not see it for what it is.

To the person that said they are doing something about cheating, botting and rmt on ffxiv. RMT, hacking, botting are rampant and always has been, if they are doing anything at all then it is with a very, very light touch. They don't want to hurt sub numbers on their precious.

Honestly, even if you did nothing wrong, multiple accounts (especially if 3 or more) all from the same ip, making gil for a good portion of the day, is pretty damn suspect.

At the very least, you're likely using some 3rd party tool (windower) to play all those characters.
