Not really trying to pick a fight over it, but when you say you used Ashita and what you perceive legal plug-ins, well, you're already at SE's mercy. Perhaps the bigger concern is if they're attempting to catch things like this and Windower now, or at least things they most readily enable and possibly tracked if you're put under the microscope. When you'd mentioned playing from different IPs, was that from multiple machines or one you rigged XI through for that explicit purpose? Maybe there's a particular VPN they're finding shady or maybe even related to all the BS DDoS attacks that have been hitting the online gaming scene of late. Maybe even said VPN is mangling packets in some manner that could get flagged. Unlikely, but at the same time, I always feel people invite risk the further they step away from the intended average player's experience.

my bot accounts are vpn'd, my main(the one that got banned) is on my home ISP.

no one DDoS' ffxi, no one even knows about it

edit: and if they start banning for ashita/windower so be it, but they should really start working on their game and making it at least somewhat user friendly if they are taking steps in that direction
edit2: i'm not complaining nor am i saying that i should not be banned, i've sold gil/botted most of my ffxi career, just not on that account. my only point in posting is that they apparently do not have any criteria for their bans and are just doing whatever they want so be careful

possible but that goes against their policies since they can't use 3rd party things to take action against someone.

and my characters name has no name connection to BG and even if it did you can't ban someone just because they have a name similar to someone who is admitting guilt that would be stupidity, but i guess nothing is surprising with SE.

either way that's a huge stretch unless them and BG admins collaborated to somehow get me banned (i would feel extremely special)

It used to be that anything posted on line that SE staff doesnt witness in game cant be used as proof. But SE staff used to also do a validity check if you're indeed botting or not, because a GM request of "hey GM hes botting, ban him" resulting in a ban is pretty fucked up.

Honestly I'm not sure we can call vanilla the intended experience. With the way they released gear that was only good for 1 thing in multiple slots and others for other things they would be completely useless vanilla because you wouldn't be able to properly macro for them until recently

But in being 100% draconian, shit's still against their rules, so they have the right to pick up the ball and send whomever home at their leisure. All we can really do is hope they're more right than wrong in doing so. Unfortunately, fixing their mistakes seems virtually impossible anymore.

i don't think they would still have a game without windower/ashita honestly.

the game is not user friendly at all. nothing should punish you as much for using it as the vanilla client does

Well I'd even go so far as to say that a lot of the game is basically 1 large case of entrapment.

They put stuff in the game that can only be used effectively with tools but don't use tools. Btw we are making stuff hard enough where you kind of need the advantage offered by that gear. Might as well drop money in front of a homeless man and walking away and then get mad at him for keeping it.

Then look at just windowed mode. It's what got me using windower in the first place and for forever I just used it for that. But think about it just to look anything up online vanilla players used to have to log out each time. Imagine trying to navigate places.... I actually would have to draw up little maps or print it out.

Or fishing where they make changes that actually make it harder on legit fishers while simultaneously making it even easier for botters.

AFK'd in party with bots but no capacity point party, was on a totally different IP than the bots.

Not starting shit, just putting rhyme to reason. Maybe they've realized that banning mules does little to curb botting, and after analyzing things (surely your main has more worth to it than the others), they hit your main as a means of actually doing some harm.

it's like saying the next time you join a delve you could get banned because that 6th person you got from shouting was using a stun bot. you can't ban under that criteria and expect to still have a playerbase that isn't constantly living in fear

Yeah part of me thinks the reason my mule got banned is awhile ago back when they were still popular I paid for a spot in a abyssea leech pt a few times and maybe they just got around to banning anyone who associated with those guys more than a few times. As this is the only association I can think of with possible this account had. I mean they probably were rmt considering they'd do this stuff for 12 hours straight everyday. But if they are banning for association because of thought you are related things like that could happen and make people rather fear for their accounts who did nothing wrong. It's like bring back McCarthyism levels of paranoia. Don't dare even look the wrong way shun everyone accused for fear it might come back to you

Not that I planned on ever coming back, but after D44punk's news this is disheartening for current players. I really do still love FFXI and I'm always looking for a game that I could play as a single player or ftp mmorpg, but I do think FFXI is top notch even with the dated graphics and what not. I only wish for current players SE gets their act together.

Oh, no. Someone else has been botting which doesn't effect me in any way, shape or form, but I'm going to go post about how happy I am that he's been banned.
