I feel it's important at this point that I add a bit to my discussion over the past few pages.

Most of the people in LS who got hit today had done some level of botting, but if reports are accurate at least 1 had only used clipper (aside from benefitting from botted CP).

I have a feeling SE didn't even ban this significant a ratio of players for botting compared to even the 75 era when they were sending cease and desist notices to those selling bots for HNMs.

Kinda wonder if there's some corporate reason for it - though, if so, putting that speculation on Kotaku/Polygon/etc would probably garner enough negative PR to see something done.

I botted on Ramzus a total of once between my suspension and ban, for a total for 3 hours where I was talking on him every 5-10 minutes to make sure I was getting real input. My other character that I use for EXP botting (while flee hacking) is not banned, naturally. I'm preeeeeeeetty sure this one was clipper related since one of my friends who never ever bots (but does clip) got suspended on 3 accounts that are all on different SE IDs.

for every person that posts there is probably 10 bans, most people are too prideful to admit they got banned. no idea why, internet cool kid points or some shit.

SE banning people overall makes no sense but they have always been an illogical company, the only scenarios i can think of are..

they expect people to buy new cd keys to make new characters because they want to experience the "End of content content" (won't happen, ffxi is structured so horrible it's not worth making a new character w/o POS and clipper)

orr they are just banning people to set precedence for their partnership with Nexon and don't want it look as infested by 3rd party tools as it is

Yeah, SE has to look good for the big bad (key word) Nexon.

I am still having nightmare of just hearing their name in association with anything Final Fantasy.

POS warp, no. Maintenance, maybe? I can't say cause I'm not sure.

How detectable by the sever is maint mode (how about those stupid GM mode SSs for that matter?) compared to simply pos manipulation with the directionals on clipper? I mean both can be used at times to accomplish the same goals at times (doors etc).

Honestly, I have not heard of it happening. If it does happen, it happens much less frequently.

When I finished my Mythic I did post a SS with GM mode on but that's because I completely forgot to turn it off, didn't want evidence of me using Clipper because I'm paranoid.

Another strange thing, he got tempbanned on all his 3 accounts, whereas usually people reported here to get pretty random bans between mains/mules etc.

Are those three accounts on the same SE ID? If so, that's why they all got hit.

byrth also located a flag in the normal position update packet that has only been observed as set when maintenance mode is active, while it's entirely possible it's something else and coincidental that maintenance mode triggers it, it appears to be a tipoff to the server that user has maint active.. this has been in place for 8 months at the very least, if not since the game's launch.. if you don't use a plugin/addon to clear that flag then maint mode should be a very easy thing to catch

I might be wrong about this, but I remember seeing that the flag was only set when a player update packet had the event status bit flagged. Terror and something else were also indicated, I think. I don't remember the flag being set when using maintenance mode.

It is set when in maint mode and occasionally when entering mog gardens. I had my version of clipper print to the chat log when it was set, and those were the only two times.
