agreed, which is a great example of why i am not a fan of the company at all, they continuously make shit decisions. the ps2 limitation was always a cop out that they didn't want to deal with, obviously it was a real factor but it was a problem of their own making that they never cared to address.

I haven't played XIV past the 2 week demo nor really read up on it much, but didn't they already announce that when the time comes, the PS3 will be cut and the game will continue to progress? /whiteknight~ I'd like to imagine they learned from their folly of developing a game on console dev kits with FFXI and stayed in the PC development realm.

Why does complete popularity translate to success for you? We aren't the people who made it who can translate popularity to income and thus success. We are simply the consumers and if the game is not shit then it has an element of success right off the bat. Is it a greater measure of success to be WoW or to last 14 years or more while others come and go sooner?

To make a typical shitty analogy from myself. The vita by your interpretation of success is a failure, but it is the superior system for handheld gaming in several regards (not all obviously). The people who own them nowadays are generally Draylos who love what they have despite it being less popular because of what it really offers. No one is saying anyone has to like the unique offerings, but it certainly doesn't mean its some unsuccessful shit.

Let's stop using the word "the best" too as if anyone is representing things here as best or worst.

It is a matter of opinion, you are right on that. Most people still actively posting on these still tend to enjoy the game or they usually don't post or frequent the forums. The opposite is extreme though, people who actively post just to annoy others or try to put them down, makes them seem like nut cases in my eyes. Just because something is popular doesn't make it "the best" and nobody was saying FFXI is the best, at least that I know. Final Fantasy itself isn't even that popular compared to things like Call of Duty and Candy crush, does that make it bad? No, it doesn't.

Actually not. The binding of FFXI to PS2 was revealed to be that it was primarily made with PS2 devkits and then translated to PC, and they have no tools to directly create assets for PC. When the devkits die, they lose the ability to make anything new, and they don't have the knowledge base in current employees anymore to rebuild the development tools on PC.

FFXIV, being on PC first, and ported to PS3/PS4, means they can create assets natively for PC, and so they can change whatever they like a decade down the road. The toolkit being on PC makes it more flexible, because it's not locked to limited-production hardware.

i'm pretty sure the majority of people that come to these boards aren't actually coming here for FFXI, just saying. i would even bet that the majority of people that browse the ffxi forums no longer play.
