That sort of thinking is a slippery slope though...and it's what created these horrifically flawed rules that make me really hope that SE never retires commercial FFXI: http://supernovaffxi.wikia.com/wiki/Rules
As far as I'm concerned, n-boxing is the same as getting multiple friends. Checking multi-boxers is basically going to be a witch-hunt. Keep in mind that not all people who multi-box use automation software for it. I have a friend who helped me get my D-ring who used two controllers for each of his accounts. Hell, whenever I used to have to split Dynamis currency from Goublefaupe runs, I always permitted multi-boxers to lot as if each of their characters were separate people simply because they did double the work. While I get where you're coming from, you should propose a more defined basis for rotation, like popping by party. While I don't support that idea either, I can't really refute it.
Actually it was just my account, the ex's account, and her mule. So I count that as 3.
Who really pays $233/mo for 18 accounts to be logged on anymore?
Thank you Viv for helping the community define "normal" people too.
Cory can also pick out our adopted children after giving the most modern rendition of sharing I have heard.
I did the waiting in line for a couple of log in campaigns got tired of how slow people were. I am not going to wait in line to watch someone do multiple pops with thf knife only.
My rule of thumb when I got mine was no more than five minutes per pop. After that, we'd proc Treasure Hunter with Exenterator and Rudra's Storm (depending on the cooldown of SA/TA). And while we waited, we'd make fun of the people without adequate MDT sets by standing in the blast zone for Meteor.![]()
Someone with 2 accounts isn't doing double the work, they're either doing half the work on each one or 99% of the work on one and 1% on the other, hence why every time I come across a multiboxer their precious mule is useless 99% of the time just taking up space and getting free items for no effort when that spot could go to a real player. People don't have 4 hands and 2 brains, you can't put your full attention into 2 things, you're going to half-ass it one way or the other.
Implying people put 100% of their attention and effort etc into 1 character at all times on lvl 75 content <.<. This aint ffxiv. If you are dualboxing without tools chances are while you might not putting them same attention on each account as you would single it's almost certainly still going to be more total between the 2 because you switch in lull times when you can and such
You've only played with shitty 2boxers. Granted the majority will be shitty, as the majority of single boxers are shitty...
I'd trust a BRD main playing BRD over a shitty mule who stands there and doesn't even keep songs up. Same goes for any other commonly multiboxed support jobs. It's funny that people dualbox crucial roles like support when they require more thinking and concentration than dualboxing something braindead like a DD
I triboxed at one point. DNC main, WHM and BRD alts. I only used send keybinds to control them, so I had to alt tab to position them properly.
The BRD character was underutilized (haste, emergency C4, some status removal, songs) but I doubt that real DNC+WHM could kill anything I could not duo with that WHM mule. The game is easy enough that it is possible to get near 100% of two jobs' potential. The only problem is really positioning, as you can only run on one character at once the way I did it. I certainly could not have healed a full party as well as a real WHM using my macros, but if that had been my goal I would not put it past myself.
I don't care what you do with your multiboxes in solo play, that's irrelevant. In parties a mage has more duties than to AFK and dump a cure in the event of an emergency. In parties I expect every character to be efficient and play to the best of their ability and use everything at their disposal when appropriate, which no matter how hard you try, even with bots, a mule simply isn't going to compete with a real player. Humans aren't good at multitasking, it's a scientific fact, doing 2 tasks divides your attention 50% between them. You're not as a good a driver and texter as you think. Add on to this that mules often have less-than-stellar gear because most people aren't going to devote all their resources to another account, unless it's a pre-built bought account (which sadly a lot of people feel the need to buy)
In any event where HP scales, having dead weight multiboxers is going to hurt the party in the long run unless you only play with yourself.
You've got it backwards, you think you're carrying the 2boxed mule. Which "can" be true.
It's my 2boxing that allows me to carry your deadweight...
the problem with your thinking is that you think FFXI is hard enough that it requires 100% of your attention.
it doesn't, i'm sorry. play any moba/WoW/probably even ff14 you'll see the difference between a game that requires the majority of your attention (probably still not all) and ffxi.
if it required all your attention voice-chatting etc. would have caught on a lot more, unfortunately nobody really uses it, in real games they use them in pick up groups and everything.
I will toss in that dualboxing (even in a very basic way while solo, like me) offers an efficiency boost that is different but in a lot of ways comparable to fleehacking. My mule enabled me to efficiently farm Salvage v2 and Dynamis reboot back when they were introduced. Fleehacking would have helped in those events, but would not have helped as much because running faster doesn't cure and haste me.
haveing a dualbox mule opened for me a new world of possibilitys in 11. so yeah everyone who isnt dualboxing is "hurting" themselfs, this is now less relevant due to trusts, and prolly will be less relevant if they make trusts useable everywhere tough. So i welcome the Trust change.
