I feel like the stronger cause is playing a really fucking violent sport almost every day. As in, it's not the brain damage, but the effect on the mental state.

I think that could be very likely, too. But when you look at cases like Jr. Seau which wasn't about being aggressive, it does make me wonder that sometimes they can't control themselves.

Maybe I am projecting. My brother-in-law is a very violent guy, and they (him and my sister) claim the doctors said it was a result from a hit he took to the head as a kid when he fell of a ski lift.

It is not not exactly a small secret that they have done studies on the brains of players. And it's probably getting better. But, since reporting is getting more aggressive, it may seem like this is happening more often when it really isn't.

You could make the argument that children exposed to lead grown up to be more attracted to violent sports because of the developmental changes caused by lead poisoning.

Let's not be obtuse. Brain injury is not going to cause all players to react the same way.

CTE is indicated by a buildup of tau, an abnormal protein that strangles brain cells in areas that control memory, emotions and other functions.

Strangling the cells that control emotions could lead to suicide (Seau), or violent behavior, or a myriad of other responses.

It could also very well just push the person further than otherwise they would have. ie. rice maybe have been a shithead before, but is just now an even bigger shithead because of it.

The depression cases are clearly CTE as far as I know. I'm just talking about the wife beating and general violent behavior. Combination of violent profession and sense of entitlement. Anyway this is armchair psychology so I'll stop.
