I do have to say it is refreshing to be able to do woe again and seeing large groups. I hope the allure of the uber items will keep people coming back and ensuring decent groups....

I didnt like WoE in the beginning, and 5 hours of new WoE was allready enough for me yesterday to puke on it. I do like a large group of people, if its 1-2 big allys, but a clusterfuck of people, running chaoticly around isnt my flavour. Not to mention the zoneing in and out is irritating as fuck.
Other than Windbuffet 2: Electric Boogaloo, are there any other job defining pieces of gear from WoE 2?
Not sure about "job defining," but Enchntr. Earring +1 seems nice to me. Gives us a second fast cast earring for all jobs (believe only RDM had two fast cast earrings before this), and might also make a good debuff piece for a few jobs such as brd.
Engulfer Cape +1 will probably make for a good -mdt piece for a lot of the jobs that can use it. Looks like the same jobs are all on Mollusca Mantle, but as you approach the -mdt cap the "Occasionally absorbs magic damage taken" from Engulfers will likely prove more useful.
Pixie Hairpin +1 should be good for things like Kaustra or Impact.
Kaustra, Meteor, Impact, Vidohunir, Leaden Salute, Sanguine Blade, etc. It's a beastly piece.
it's basically a dark affinity atma that can be used anywhere
I'm not sure there are any 'job defining' pieces, but lots of them are upgrades for slots, and sometimes new things in slots that didn't have anything like it before.
The nice thing is, even if you don't get what you want, if you do get something, you can probably sell it and buy what you want without much trouble.
#4 spawned as both Surge and NQ on my server. The Khims are standing inside one antoher, NQ and HQ. Thing says it's a non-surged walk.
Finally killed the NQ mobs and the HQ ones despawned.
Has elemental "MAB" on gear always been affinity?
Yes, but it didn't matter as much before because there were fewer examples of it: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/th...196#post522196
I look forward to trying this out later. It should be equivalent to about 120 MAB for my BLM on Vidohunir. Something like damage +20%.
So all those pieces people used to overlook because it was element:mab+4 was actually affinity+4? That chimera headpin woulda been awesome in abyssea if i knew about it then and i wouldnt have used a different piece that had a higher mab.
does the same apply to this: http://www.ffxiah.com/item/28387/quanpur-necklace
or does it have to say earth elemental?
That is affinity, as is Archon ring.
Wow, this is news to me. Won't this change how we gear for magic damage?
Not really, because we've known this for over a year! Also, if you check the post I made then I listed all the affinity equipment at the time of the post.
For nukes slightly if you didn't know about it already... given the amount of MAB we have now I'd say it would make them be approximately equivalent to around 3 times as much if it was just mab but several of them are old pieces so not sure if worth it.
Like Chimera Hairpin on jobs with decent ilvl magic pieces probably crap now though probably still a good Aeolian peice. Melisseus Staff/Zamzummim Staff don't have ilvl or magic dmg so nope. Ihwa Huaraches has crap otherwise
Kaikias' Cape maybe. Might depend on the new jse cape augments. But it's pretty close with current mage stuff so why bother just for wind?
Archon Ring, Ossa Grip, Ngqoqwanb, Pixie Hairpin +1, Quanpur Necklace still usable
Also should note I think only earth ones dropped the "elemental" part
